wu zhen, male, born in january 1971, is a member of the communist party of china. he holds a ph.d. in applied mathematics from shandong university. he is currently the vice president of shandong university, the dean of the school of mathematics, the executive vice president of taishan academy, a professor, a doctoral supervisor, a distinguished professor of the "changjiang scholar" program of the ministry of education, and a professor of the taishan scholar climbing program.

wu zhen is mainly engaged in the research of stochastic optimal control theory, forward and backward stochastic differential equation theory and financial mathematics applications. he has achieved a series of breakthrough original basic theoretical research results with international influence, which have been published in top international sci journals in the fields of stochastic control, probability theory and equations. in recent years, he has published more than 70 academic papers in sci journals. he is responsible for more than ten scientific research projects, including the national natural science fund for outstanding young scholars, key projects, and major basic projects of the shandong natural science fund. his research results have won the first prize of shandong natural science and the chern mathematics award.

wu zhen has served as party secretary of the school of mathematics, director of the personnel department, director of the talent work office, and director of the teacher work department of the party committee of shandong university. in july 2019, he was appointed assistant to the president of shandong university. in october 2020, he was appointed member of the standing committee of the party committee and vice president of shandong university. in august 2024, he was appointed member of the standing committee of the party committee and executive vice president (at the bureau level) of shandong university.

the hong kong university of science and technology

according to media reports, on september 16, the hong kong university of science and technology (hkust) announced the appointment of professor kwong ka-shing as vice-president (development), with his term effective from september 26 this year.

mr kwong received a bachelor of science degree in civil and structural engineering from the university of hong kong in 1987. he subsequently obtained four master's degrees, including a master of science in environmental management from the university of hong kong in 1994, a master of science in hydraulic engineering from the university of newcastle, uk in 1995, a master of arbitration and dispute resolution from the city university of hong kong in 2005, and a master of laws (commercial law) from the university of northumbria, uk in 2009. he is also a member of the institution of civil engineers and the hong kong institution of engineers. in july this year, he was awarded the bronze bauhinia star by the hong kong sar government.

mr kwong was the first director of the project strategy and control division under the development bureau of the hong kong special administrative region government, responsible for overseeing the capital works programme to ensure that public works projects are delivered on time and cost-effectively. he was also responsible for formulating strategies to strengthen the governance structure of capital works projects and the entire construction industry, and was committed to improving the overall industry performance, thus winning wide recognition and respect from the local and international construction industry, academia and engineering community.

as the first vice-president (development) of hkust and a core member of the university's senior management team, kwong ka-shing will be responsible for exploring ideal development opportunities for the university and will also assist in formulating strategies to promote hkust's vision and strategic development policies. at the same time, he will also strive to enhance campus management and development and achieve the goal of building a carbon-neutral campus.
