according to foreign media reports on september 17, apple released ios 18 on monday, the latest version of its iphone software.

this is apple's biggest iphone update this year, but the launch does not include the company's upcoming artificial intelligence system, apple intelligence, which is the focus of apple's new ads.

apple said apple intelligence will be released to the public in beta form later this fall as part of a separate software update.

the ios 18 update will change the look and feel of the iphone operating system. one of the signature features this year is the ability to change the color of the home screen icons. overall, the new user interface for the iphone will have a ton of customization options.

elsewhere, many of apple's apps have been redesigned or updated. in particular, apple's messages app will gain the ability to send rcs messages, which will turn text messages (known to some iphone users as green bubbles) into a more modern experience with better photo quality and typing indicators.

this update is available for all iphones released in 2018 or later. you can download it in settings > general > software update.

here are some of the major changes:

users can now move icons anywhere on the home screen. for example, it is now possible to place our apps only around the screen borders, or add a single app to the middle of the screen.

users can change the appearance of the app icon, either to dark mode or to a favorite color.

apple has updated its control center menu to add more pages of shortcuts and options.

the messages app can now make text bold or italic, and users can now reply to messages with emojis instead of the previously available options, which included question marks, exclamation points, hearts, and thumbs-up.

if wi-fi isn't available, supported devices will be able to send texts via satellite.

the update includes a new apple app called passwords that can save and generate strong passwords.
