china news service, september 13. according to reports from foreign media such as afp and abc, on the 12th local time, swiss independent prosecutor eric cordier submitted the final investigation report on the world anti-doping agency (wada)'s handling of 23 chinese swimmers.

the report believes that wada did not show "favoritism" towards china in its handling of the pollution cases of 23 chinese swimmers without fault, and stated that wada's work is "autonomous, independent and professional."

at the same time, the report also pointed out that wada's choice not to appeal against china's anti-doping agency's explanation that the positive result was due to contamination was "reasonable."

wada director general olivier niggli welcomed the report and said, "most importantly, (cordier) reiterated that wada has no bias towards china and that the decision not to appeal is a reasonable one based on the evidence."

according to previous reports, in april 2024, several western media claimed that several chinese swimmers were found to be positive for the doping drug trimetazidine in 2021 but were not punished. wada responded that the china anti-doping center promptly notified the result after the incident and concluded that the positive result was caused by hotel food contamination based on the investigation. wada recognized this conclusion after a detailed review, so the relevant reports were "misleading and potentially defamatory."

on july 15, the anti-doping review committee established by fina sent a letter to all member federations, stating that fina had "no violations, improper handling or concealment" in its review of the food contamination incident involving chinese swimmers.

the letter stated that fina established the anti-doping review committee (hereinafter referred to as the "committee") on may 3 to review the food contamination incident involving 23 chinese swimmers in 2021 and the compliance of the procedures adopted by fina in handling all doping cases under its jurisdiction, and provide advice to fina to improve its future anti-doping regulations and ensure that its anti-doping work is at the industry-leading level.
