on september 13, beijing time, the suwon fc team of the korean k league officially announced that it had terminated the contract with son jun-ho ahead of schedule.
on may 12, 2023, sun junhao was taken away by chinese police when he tried to leave shanghai. it was later confirmed that he was suspected of bribery by non-state employees. on march 25, 2024, sun junhao was released and returned to south korea. at the end of april, sun junhao completed his registration in the k league and joined suwon fc in june, returning to korean football.

suwon fc wrote in the official announcement:
"hello everyone, i am choi chun-ho, general manager of suwon fc. we have been thinking seriously about the punishment announced by the chinese football association on september 10 regarding the player son jun-ho, and we firmly believe that as a club we should help all players to perform at their best in the game. after a tough season, we can no longer bring more non-game-related troubles to the fans and players who support us. therefore, after considering the entire team, other teammates and fans, based on son jun-ho's request to terminate the contract, we decided to accept and terminate his contract. due to this series of events, we express our deepest apologies to all fans of suwon fc and the korean football community."
it is reported that choi chun-ho said in an interview with korean media earlier: "the club decided to terminate the contract because it believed that continuing to use controversial players was disrespectful to the fans."
according to yonhap news agency, son jun-ho's total salary at suwon fc is 500 million won (about 2.67 million yuan), and he has received 100 million to 200 million won in salary. suwon fc is a team that relies on citizen taxes. suwon fc has an annual budget of 20 billion won (about 106.8 million yuan), of which citizen taxes account for 75%. it is reported that suwon fc has been strongly criticized by citizens, who claim that the team wasted hundreds of millions of won of taxpayers' money to pay salaries to those who played match-fixing.
