cailianshe news, september 10 (editor: bian chun)swedish defense minister pal jonsson said on monday:sweden will provide ukraine with its 17th round of military aid, with a total value of 4.6 billion swedish kronor (about 443 million us dollars)

sweden has previously provided ukraine with several batches of combat vehicles, and the new aid includes shells for these vehicles, as well as spare parts for gripen fighter jets, although sweden has not yet decided to provide ukraine with this fighter jet.

johnson said the new aid also includes combat boats, missiles and camouflage equipment, as well as funds to support ukraine's defense procurement. the measures were decided in close cooperation with kiev.

"the aid package, worth 4.6 billion swedish kronor, meets ukraine's military needs and creates freedom for future operations," the swedish defense ministry said in a statement.

the statement also stressed that offering ukraine the jas-39 gripen fighter jets that it is interested in now "is not a viable option as this would interfere with the priority introduction of f-16 fighter jets."

however, johnson told a news conference: "we hope to be able to supply the gripen to ukraine at a later stage."

including the latest aid, the total amount of military aid provided by sweden to ukraine has exceeded 48 billion swedish kronor (about 4.63 billion us dollars) since the outbreak of the russia-ukraine conflict in february 2022.

at the end of august, russia launched its largest air strike against ukraine since the full-scale outbreak of the russia-ukraine conflict in early 2022.

as the russia-ukraine conflict enters a new stage, ukraine has recently increased pressure on the united states and other western allies, demanding that they provide more military support and allow it to use long-range weapons provided by the west to attack military targets within russia.

the british government said on friday it would provide ukraine with 650 lightweight multi-role missiles worth 162 million pounds ($213 million) to help protect the country from russian drone attacks and missile bombardments.

earlier this week, reports emerged that the united states was close to a deal to provide ukraine with long-range cruise missiles capable of striking deep into russia, but kiev would have to wait a few months as washington worked out technical issues.

russian deputy foreign minister sergei ryabkov recently warned that russia will revise its principles on the use of nuclear weapons in response to western escalation in the russia-ukraine conflict.
