"boom boom..." the guanghong railway line located in nanyuan street, liwan district, guangzhou, passes through xichang, yuanxi and nan'an. built in the 1950s, this railway line dedicated to the guanghong food group was once one of the important railway lines for transporting frozen food in guangzhou. as time goes by, the guanghong railway was officially closed in 2009.
in august 2010, in order to solve the employment and livelihood of citizens and facilitate the purchase of vegetables by surrounding residents, the guanghong abandoned railway was approved to be transformed into a temporary stall in nanyuan street. however, with the increase of temporary stalls, a series of environmental sanitation problems gradually appeared in the streets, and the roads became narrower and the noise became louder. for residents, the sanitation and environmental troubles caused by temporary stalls are greater than daily convenience. in may this year, nanyuan street made every effort to promote the rectification of the temporary stalls of the guanghong abandoned railway, thoroughly cleaned up the temporary stalls, and upgraded the guanghong railway to yuanshun street (tentative name) in combination with railway relics and industrial culture, creating a green and shaded rest area under the forest at the doorstep of residents.
thoroughly rectify the "road blockage" that has been complained about many times
passing through xijiao ecological park and walking into the guanghong abandoned railway, the temporary stalls that had been set up for more than 300 meters have been cleared. a few years ago, the temporary stalls became a black spot in the nanyuan street governance due to problems such as environmental sanitation and food safety.
in addition, this abandoned railway connects dongfeng west road and fuli road. it is surrounded by communities such as heping south, yuanxi, xijiao, and two schools, nanhai middle school and guangya primary school. there are about 19,500 residents living in the surrounding area. it is an important route for students to go to school and a route for residents to go in and out.
according to statistics from nanyuan street, from 2020 to the present, the street has received more than 110 related complaints and 12345 work orders, which has become a historical legacy problem that has plagued the development of the nanyuan area.
"over the years, nanyuan street has started to rectify the temporary selling points of the guanghong abandoned railway. to clean up the temporary selling points, we must first resettle the stall owners operating at the selling points." yan xuchao, a member of the nanyuan street comprehensive administrative law enforcement team, said that during the rectification period, they went to the selling points many times to publicize, communicate and negotiate with the stall owners, and contacted the surrounding meat and vegetable markets to obtain preferential rents for the stall owners so that the stall owners at the temporary selling points can continue to make a living. among them, 14 operators with difficulty finding jobs were resettled.
in may this year, nanyuan subdistrict completed the rectification of temporary selling points, completely demolished more than 700 square meters of illegal construction at the temporary selling points, and cleared more than 1,300 square meters of illegal hangings. the management rights and interests were clarified in a timely manner, and the management rights of the companies entrusted with the management of the temporary selling points were cancelled on time in accordance with the law.
abandoned railway upgraded to multifunctional road
the guanghong abandoned railway is close to fengyuting community, yuanxi community, and heping south community in nanyuan street, and its upgrading and renovation project has also been included in the scope of the fengyuting area micro-renovation project.
"after the temporary selling points were cleared, the guanghong abandoned railway was repaved with asphalt, electric vehicle charging stations were installed, and walking paths were divided. in addition, the dead-end road of fuli road was opened up to connect to the main road in the urban area, dongfeng west road." according to liang yunyu, director of the yuanxi community residents committee of nanyuan street, after the renovation, residents ride their bicycles more orderly and students go to school more comfortably.
yuanshun street is where ms. liang, a resident, takes her children to and from school. after the temporary stalls were cleared, she could not buy groceries on the way to pick up her children from school, but sending them to interest classes by bus saved time and distance. "after the fuli road was opened, we can walk directly to the heping new village bus stop without having to walk a long way, saving 3-4 minutes."
ms. chen, a nearby resident, said: "after the temporary stalls are cleared, it won't be inconvenient. you can walk a few more steps to the nanyuan new market to buy vegetables. more importantly, the road has become cleaner and more comfortable to walk on, without being crowded."
walking along yuanshun street, you can still trace the old railway that once served the city. to make the road smooth, the railroad tracks have been covered with asphalt, but two rows of dots along yuanshun street mark the location of the tracks, allowing the community to preserve the railway memory.
it is understood that nanyuan street will also promote the "four belts connected" (walking belt, cycling belt, activity belt and facility belt), build a forest rest section, an open walking section and a convenient corridor section on yuanshun street, set up a cultural corridor to display the stories of railway imprints, and transform the guanghong abandoned railway into a high-quality residential living space.
