according to the shunyi district water affairs bureau, on september 7, a population of black storks, known as the "giant panda among birds", was once again discovered in beijing's tangzhishan reservoir. a total of 16 black storks were discovered this time.
the black stork is a national first-class protected animal and an endangered bird in the world. it often lives in river swamps and has extremely high requirements for the habitat environment. with the improvement of water quality and the restoration of the ecological environment, tangzhishan reservoir has attracted many wild birds to inhabit in recent years. this is the second time that the rare black stork has been found in shunyi district after the oriental white stork was found in wenyu river and jiangan river this year.
according to the shunyi district water affairs bureau, since the tangzhishan reservoir started ecological water replenishment on march 27, 2024, it has continued to replenish surrounding groundwater and effectively replenished water through multiple main canals and wetlands, becoming an important source of ecological water replenishment in shunyi district. up to now, the water replenishment work has been carried out for a total of 337 days, and the amount of water entering the reservoir has reached 42.2037 million cubic meters, which has effectively improved the water ecological environment quality of the reservoir and surrounding areas. in addition to the appearance of the black stork population in the tangzhishan reservoir this time, more than 30 species of wild birds also live in the reservoir, forming a harmonious and symbiotic ecological picture. as an important achievement of shunyi district's water environment governance work, in the future, with the continuous deepening of ecological water replenishment work, the ecological environment of the tangzhishan reservoir and its surrounding areas will become more pleasant, attracting more rare birds to come and live and reproduce. @beijing news radio
