gongqiao redan, 10 years old this year, is in the fifth grade at the niangpu township central primary school in gongbujiangda county, nyingchi city, tibet. like his brother lindan, his grades have always been among the best.
niangpu township central primary school, located at an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters, is the highest school in gongbujiangda county. most of the 397 students currently enrolled in the school come from high mountain pastoral areas, and the farthest one is more than 50 kilometers away from home, so most of them choose to live on campus.
the school implements a "10+4" weekday teaching model, that is, 10 days of classes and 4 days of rest. this not only helps parents pick up and drop off their children - they don't have to travel back and forth between home and school every week, but also helps children develop independent learning and living abilities from an early age.
at 8 o'clock in the morning, gongqiao redan got up, folded the quilt, washed up, had breakfast, and started the day's study life with his classmates.
the state implements the "three guarantees" policy of providing food, accommodation and tuition for the children of farmers and herdsmen in tibet and children from poor families in cities. in addition to shoes and underwear, toiletries, bedding, school uniforms, teaching materials and stationery are all provided free of charge by the state. at the same time, the school's hardware facilities are also very complete. the classrooms are equipped with touch screen teaching all-in-one machines and heating facilities. the campus has indoor and outdoor basketball courts and two football fields. in addition to three meals a day, students can also eat bread, fruit, yogurt and other nutritious products during breaks.
gong qiao rendan is most proud of his tibetan calligraphy, and he would show it off in front of his sister every time he went home. the tibetan teacher at school is also very strict. every time during the tibetan reading class, the students would shout loudly and forcefully, fearing that their voices would not be loud enough.
after evening self-study, students will go to bed before 10 pm to ensure 10 hours of sleep every day.
in summer, gong qiao rendan's family lives on the summer pasture, and gong qiao rendan returns to the summer pasture during his four-day vacation every two weeks. surrounded by green mountains and clear waters, he sometimes helps his father herd cattle, helps his mother collect cow dung, and sometimes plays to his heart's content.
"if we can't live on campus, it's really hard for us to balance picking up and dropping off our children every day with our busy lives," said wang deng, gong qiao rendan's father. their summer pasture is more than an hour's drive from the school. tongji village, where wang deng's family lives, is a semi-agricultural and semi-pastoral area. there are always endless things to do all year round, such as grazing, mowing, digging cordyceps, making butter, etc.
in 2024, the standard of "three guarantees" (including nutrition improvement) for education in tibet will be further improved to 5,620 yuan per person per year, benefiting 746,000 students. like gongqiao redan, more tibetan children are self-reliant and self-reliant in the place closest to the sky, and live upward.
