wuhan, september 7 (china news service) (reporter ma furong) the wuhan-1 satellite (luojia-3 02) data release conference was held at wuhan university on september 7. after more than three months of on-orbit testing and performance testing, the image product accuracy obtained by wuhan-1 satellite reached the expected design indicators and officially began to provide data services to the outside world.

wuhan-1 satellite was independently designed and developed by the institute of aerospace science and technology of wuhan university and launched on may 21 this year. the satellite weighs 345 kilograms and has the following outstanding features: 0.5-meter resolution full-color imaging, 10-meter resolution hyperspectral imaging, stereo mapping, night-light imaging and other mission modes, as well as on-orbit intelligent image processing.

gong jianya, an academician of the chinese academy of sciences and dean of the institute of aerospace science and technology of wuhan university, introduced that the wuhan-1 satellite can conduct continuous observation of the wuhan metropolitan area and has the ability to produce one remote sensing image of wuhan city with a spatial resolution of 0.5 meters per month. it can also meet the needs of three-dimensional mapping of real urban scenes through stereo imaging.

gong jianya explained that the 0.5-meter resolution means that the satellite can distinguish objects on the ground that are at least 0.5 meters by 0.5 meters in size from 530 kilometers in space, and clearly observe details such as roads, buildings, vehicles, farmland, and trees.

according to reports, during its time in orbit, wuhan-1 satellite has completed full coverage of wuhan with 0.5-meter resolution high-resolution images. among them, it monitored wuhan east lake and surrounding areas, clearly captured water images, and provided a basis for water surface abnormality monitoring. subsequently, it will continue to conduct observations in wuhan and other areas of hubei province, and provide spatiotemporal data for relevant departments of industry applications.

in recent years, wuhan university has developed and launched the luojia series of remote sensing satellites, and cultivated a scientific research team with the full chain capabilities of satellite development, testing, scheduling, receiving and processing. huang taiyan, secretary of the party committee of wuhan university, said that wuhan satellite no. 1 is a reflection of the integration of wuhan university's scientific research strength and local industries, and will help promote the development of wuhan's aerospace information industry.

dong danhong, director of wuhan science and technology innovation bureau, pointed out that wuhan has a national aerospace industry base and is building a commercial aerospace industry cluster with a value of 100 billion yuan. he hopes that through cooperation with wuhan university, he can continue to overcome major core issues such as high-precision time and space positioning, and accelerate the application and transformation of scientific and technological achievements in natural resources, agriculture and forestry, emergency management, environmental monitoring, smart cities and other fields.
