china-u.s. trade working group holds second vice-ministerial meeting

according to the official website of the ministry of commerce, on september 7, wang shouwen, international trade negotiation representative and vice minister of commerce of the ministry of commerce, and lago, deputy secretary of commerce of the united states, jointly hosted the second vice-ministerial meeting of the china-us trade working group in tianjin. the two sides held professional, rational and pragmatic communication on the implementation of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state in san francisco, on policy issues of their respective concerns and on specific business issues raised by the business communities of the two countries. representatives from the central cyberspace affairs commission, the ministry of industry and information technology, the ministry of finance, the national medical insurance administration, the national medical products administration and other departments attended the meeting.

wang shouwen said that the third plenary session of the 20th cpc central committee made systematic arrangements for further deepening reform and promoting chinese-style modernization. china will further deepen reform, expand opening up, and achieve high-quality development. a modern china with a huge population is an opportunity, not a threat, for the united states.

wang shouwen stressed that the san francisco meeting between the chinese and us heads of state has pointed out the direction for the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries. the first vice-ministerial meeting of the china-us trade working group was successfully held in the united states in april this year. china is willing to work with the united states to strengthen communication, expand cooperation, manage differences, and create a good policy environment for cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.

china focused on expressing concerns about the u.s. 301 tariffs on china and 301 investigations into industries such as shipbuilding, the generalization of national security, sanctions on chinese companies, two-way investment restrictions, u.s. trade remedies for china, and unfair treatment of chinese companies in the u.s. it stressed that clarifying the national security boundaries in the economic and trade fields will help stabilize corporate expectations for cooperation, and opposed the implementation of trade and investment restrictions under the pretext of "overcapacity".

the two sides agreed to provide necessary support for their respective trade and investment promotion activities; maintain communication in the fields of cross-border data flow, inspection and quarantine, health care and women's health, medical devices, clean energy, etc.; continue to promote cooperation projects between chinese and american companies and set up project offices; and strengthen cooperation under the g20, apec and other mechanisms. the two ministries of commerce are willing to maintain communication with chinese and american companies and listen to their opinions.
