zhong jingyou was born in a scholarly family in sishui, gaozhou. his ancestors were all scholars for three generations. under the influence of his family tradition, he studied hard and was admitted to the guangdong provincial no. 5 normal school at the age of 17. after graduation, he taught at the school. in order to save the nation from peril, he chose to abandon literature and join the military to start his revolutionary career despite his family's opposition.
