hunter biden pleads guilty

hunter biden was indicted in december on nine federal tax counts, including one felony count of tax evasion, two felony counts of falsifying tax returns, four misdemeanor counts of failure to pay taxes and two misdemeanor counts of failure to file tax returns.

the indictment alleges that hunter biden earned $7 million from his overseas business dealings between 2016 and 2019. he spent nearly $5 million on goods or services such as medicines, care, luxury hotels, luxury cars and clothing, and falsely marked them as business expenses.

but during those four years, he failed to pay $1.4 million in federal taxes and even filed a false return in february 2020 to evade a 2018 tax assessment.

the indictment states that for each year in which the taxes were not paid, hunter had sufficient funds to pay some or all of the unpaid taxes, "but chose not to pay."
