from 15:00 on september 3 to 15:00 on september 4, a total of 7 meteorological observation stations in qinghai province recorded precipitation exceeding 100 mm, reaching the level of torrential rain; 164 meteorological observation stations recorded precipitation exceeding 50 mm, reaching the level of torrential rain; and 291 meteorological observation stations recorded precipitation exceeding 25 mm, reaching the level of heavy rain.

li zhouzang, director of the emergency and disaster reduction department of the qinghai provincial meteorological bureau, introduced that this round of precipitation is of great intensity, wide impact range and long duration. it is the strongest precipitation process since qinghai’s meteorological records (1954), and it is extreme and highly disastrous.

monitoring by the meteorological department showed that during this round of rainfall, the maximum precipitation in qinghai occurred at the datong niangniang mountain scenic area meteorological station, which was 133.8 mm. the hourly rainfall intensity at the station was 68.6 mm, breaking the historical extreme (58.5 mm). the maximum precipitation in the town occurred in datong hui and tu autonomous county, xining city, qinghai province, with a precipitation of 76.3 mm.

meteorological experts pointed out that the recent overlap of rainfall areas in qinghai province is high, which may cause landslides, mud-rock flows, mountain torrents, floods in small and medium-sized river basins and other secondary disasters. relevant departments and units need to take precautions and conduct investigations.
