rumors are like "viruses" in cyberspace. once they spread, their destructive power cannot be underestimated. not only do they mislead the public's cognition and cause social panic, they may also cause irreparable reputation damage and economic losses to specific individuals or groups. since the beginning of this year, public security organs have investigated more than 22,000 cases of online rumors, investigated and dealt with more than 25,000 netizens who spread rumors in accordance with the law, guided network operators to shut down more than 160,000 illegal and irregular accounts, and cleaned up more than 1.322 million online rumor information. on self-media platforms, due to the fast speed and wide range of information dissemination, the harm of rumors is infinitely magnified. therefore, rectifying self-media rumors is an inevitable requirement for maintaining social stability and protecting the rights and interests of the public.
rectifying the chaos in self-media and purifying cyberspace is a systematic project that requires the joint efforts of the government, platforms, self-media operators and the majority of netizens. relevant government departments should continue to improve relevant laws, regulations and regulatory mechanisms to provide strong guarantees for rectification actions; self-media platforms should earnestly fulfill their main responsibilities, strengthen content review and supervision, and promptly discover and deal with illegal and irregular information; self-media operators should adhere to professional ethics and legal bottom lines, and consciously resist rumors and false information; the majority of netizens should improve their media literacy and discernment, not believe in rumors, not spread rumors, and jointly maintain a healthy network ecology.
