cctv news(reporter wang jingyuan): "our forest fire fighters are 'iron-footed', 'mountain experts', and 'living maps'..." dang jun, captain of the training brigade of the gansu provincial forest fire brigade, has participated in more than 10 major forest fire rescue missions, developed more than 10 innovative rescue equipment, and obtained 4 national software copyrights, 1 work copyright, and 3 invention patents. in october 2018, dang jun transferred to a new position with the team. after a few years, he has become an expert in emergency rescue.
dang jun is from tongwei, gansu. he was admitted to the armed police academy in september 2008, majoring in fire command, and graduated in 2012 to start working. as an ordinary grassroots cadre, dang jun's daily work is to manage and train, and his well-known label is scientific and technological research and development.
in 2018, dang jun taught himself computer software programming with no basic knowledge. he independently designed and programmed the "map number query decision-making auxiliary system", which overcame the three historical difficulties in domestic map number calculation: one is the legal mapping of coordinates, the second is the legal mapping of place names by reverse analysis, and the third is the unconditional extraction of map numbers for any region in the country.
this system fills the gap in the field of information technology for calculating the numbering of military maps in my country, and also improves the speed and accuracy of staff assistants in assisting decision-making, and has obtained the national computer software copyright.
dang jun introduced that in my country, only the army and fire brigades use military maps. this system has been used by the entire army and national fire rescue teams.

dang jun created a learning method that he called "bridge learning method", which means that a bridge needs to be built from the starting point to the destination. in simple terms, it is to work backwards and decompose from one's ultimate goal, to figure out how many bridges need to be built and which steps need to be taken to achieve this goal, and then refine each step based on one's own situation.
taking the development of this software as an example, what he wanted in the end was a mature software. as a learner with no basic knowledge, dang jun had to master the java language in the first place. the second place was programming tools. he then chose a mature software programmer already on the market and studied it carefully. then, in the third place, he had to solve the logic problems of this software, which was also the most difficult place. the last place was page design. dang jun first spent two weeks studying, another week solving the logic difficulties, and another week integrating and forming it. it took him a month to achieve this goal.
during the period of software development, dang jun was the squadron leader, "like a squad leader, he had to worry about everything." during the day, he had to deal with his job, so he could only squeeze in time to learn programming. sometimes he could only sleep for one or two hours a day, his hair fell out in clumps, his blood pressure was high, and "i felt like my head was burning."
as a forest fire administrative manager, why did he teach himself programming and develop software? dang jun said that the original intention of every research and development attempt was to solve the difficulties encountered in the work.
in 2018, he found in a competition organized by the corps that the conversion and calculation of map numbers had always been done manually, and it took a professional more than ten minutes to complete this task. however, for rescue missions such as "saving lives from time", a few seconds could mean a life. so he thought of using an intelligent way to solve this problem, save rescue time, and improve rescue efficiency.
in addition, the party army has also developed software such as forest fire training assistants and fire prevention and firefighting training platforms to provide information support for team training and duty.
the party army has innovated and developed more than 10 simple and practical emergency rescue equipment based on the characteristics and difficulties of forest firefighting work. for example, equipment such as horizontal rope erection brackets and paddle-type ground nails have improved the team's ability to rescue by rope, and forest firefighting equipment such as liquid-based separation fire extinguishing bombs and automatic refuelers have improved the team's firefighting efficiency. due to the complex terrain of plateau forests, it is difficult for large vehicles to penetrate into the mountains and forests. for this reason, the party army has developed a foldable one-wheeled equipment transport vehicle, which solves the problem of the "last mile" of fire equipment transportation.

after the job transfer reform, dang jun actively learned emergency rescue knowledge and was invited to serve as a training instructor for local forest fire fighting teams many times. he has trained more than 5,000 forest fire fighting backbones. he is also the only brigade-level expert in the forest fire fighting command expert pool.
the ultimate goal of scientific and technological research and development and theoretical learning is to better serve actual rescue operations. since he started working, dang jun has participated in more than 10 major forest fire fighting missions. among them, the one that impressed him the most was the march 29 fire in qinyuan, shanxi in 2019.
dang jun recalled that the firefighting operation in qinyuan, shanxi, lasted nearly 40 hours. at 6 a.m., the team planned to evacuate the fire scene, but the fire scene had changed dramatically and it was no longer possible to evacuate according to the original route. "everyone was lost." at that time, all communication and positioning equipment was powered off, and all the officers and soldiers had used up all the supplies and drinking water they carried with them. in addition, the team was fighting across regions and was unfamiliar with the terrain, so the morale of the entire team was very low.
considering that dang jun has solid knowledge of topography, the organization decided that dang jun would plan the route and lead all personnel to evacuate. dang jun said that "walking on the ground and thinking on the map" is a necessary skill for grassroots forest fire fighters. he is confident in his professional knowledge, "if i was alone at the time, i would not be afraid and there would be no pressure."
but the reality is that the team of more than 100 people has been without food and water for nearly 9 hours. fire rescue consumes a lot of physical energy. generally speaking, each firefighter drinks eight kilograms of water every day, which means one kilogram of water per hour.
the dang army said that when people are in extreme despair, they do not show disappointment or pain, but rather a blank expression, which is a state of complete numbness.
he started to lead the team to evacuate at 6 a.m. that day. it was still dark when they set out. one hour later, the team rested in place. as the sky gradually brightened, dang jun noticed the expressions on his brothers' faces. "at that time, i suddenly felt a little panicked," dang jun was worried that if he didn't get everyone out, he might not be able to get out. "the pressure was unprecedented and indescribable. it was like something was blocking my head and i felt suffocated." after nearly 5 hours of continuous marching, the whole team finally evacuated safely.
this was not the largest fire that the party army had ever put out, but it was the one that left the deepest impression on him, because he truly experienced what despair and high pressure were.
some people say that in peacetime, forest firefighters are the team closest to the line of death, because the disasters they face cannot be stopped by human power. in front of them are raging fires, and behind them are the lights of thousands of homes. wherever there is green, there are the orange figures of forest firefighters.
