malawi is located in southeastern africa and is one of the least developed countries in the world. in 2019, malawi was severely hit by the strong tropical cyclone "idai", affecting nearly 1 million people, half of whom were children, and about 125,000 people were displaced or homeless due to the disaster.
the chinese government has provided unicef with us$1 million to help affected children and families get back on track. the funds were used to purchase water purification tablets, therapeutic foods, iron folic acid for girls, education and play kits, and early childhood development kits.
