beijing news (reporter wu tingting) on august 30, the reporter learned from the beijing water authority that since the beginning of the flood season on june 1, the average rainfall in the miyun reservoir basin has reached 504 mm, 32% more than the multi-year average rainfall. especially after entering the critical flood prevention period, there have been a number of heavy rainfall processes in succession, and the rivers entering the reservoir upstream have experienced a sharp rise in water levels. the reservoir's water storage capacity has increased from 2.843 billion cubic meters to 3.225 billion cubic meters.
the miyun reservoir has fully exerted its role in flood control, peak reduction and disaster reduction, intercepting and storing more than 450 million cubic meters of rainwater and flood water from upstream, reducing flood peaks greater than 1,000 cubic meters per second twice, and achieving a flood control and peak reduction rate of 100%, effectively alleviating the flood control pressure downstream and ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.
in the next step, the miyun reservoir management office will continue to follow the work goal of "ensuring safety and storing more water", maximize the role of the reservoir as the "pillar of flood control" and "water supply stabilizer", and transform rainwater and flood water into precious water resources.
