lhasa, august 31 (china news service) (ma zhengjun) recently, a train carrying more than 1,400 tons of steel arrived at the nyingchi station of the lhasa-rihe railway in tibet. zhou zhenbin, the duty officer of the freight yard, was monitoring the unloading operation on site. the steel was transported to the market in nyingchi county by car more than two hours later.

the dedicated line of nyingchi railway at nyingchi station started freight service on april 28, 2020. as of now, the cumulative freight volume has reached 1.4 million tons, and the arriving products include steel, cement, grain, photovoltaic components, etc.

nyingchi county is located in the south-central part of tibet. the dedicated line of nyingchi station on the lhasa-river railway is located near tumba village on the banks of the yarlung zangbo river. it forms a road-rail transport base by utilizing national highway 318 that runs through the village.

"the commissioning of the dedicated railway line has opened up the 'last mile' of road-rail transport in nyingchi county. we expect the freight volume this year to be around 250,000 tons." jiang bin, head of lhasa nihongyuancang industrial co., ltd., which was established based on the dedicated railway line, said that the realization of road-rail transport has brought opportunities to the company and nyingchi.

"because nyingchi is located in the yarlung zangbo river gorge, with a high altitude and rugged terrain, road transportation is difficult. we now use rail transportation, which is less affected by the weather. nowadays, goods sent from other provinces and regions can reach nyingchi in about a week, greatly shortening the transportation time." said wu jie, head of the nyingchi county logistics park.

the steady development of road-rail transport in nyingchi county has not only promoted the improvement of local infrastructure, but also provided more employment opportunities for local residents. according to pubu, the captain of the loading and unloading team of the park, there are currently more than 100 farmers and herdsmen working in the park, including loading and unloading, water and electricity, and car drivers.

"the work here is highly consistent with my university major. i can also take care of my family and contribute to the development of my hometown. this makes me feel very honored and satisfied." said danzeng quzha, a university graduate who just started working in the park last year. (end)
