it home reported on august 31 that microsoft issued a press release yesterday (august 30), releasing the kb5041881 update for windows 11 to windows insider project members in the beta channel. after users installed it, the version number was upgraded to build 22635.4145.

optimization and improvement (gradually invite beta channel users to test)

[conventional]

on new business devices in a managed state (running windows 11 enterprise, education, or professional with an entra id) or when logging into a new account, the microsoft 365 app is pinned to the taskbar, allowing users to quickly access copilot for microsoft 365.

[enter]

improved settings > bluetooth and devices > mouse, providing a turn-off option for users who do not like to use enhanced mouse pointer precision, and added a new option to change the mouse scroll direction.

optimized "settings" > "bluetooth and devices" > "touch" and added a touch screen edge gesture section, where you can choose to disable the left or right screen edge touch gestures.

[desktop spotlight]

microsoft has adjusted the windows spotlight experience on the desktop to make it easier for users to join hotspots when they right-click the windows spotlight icon.

additionally, the changes will include two different user experience treatments, which insiders will notice.

the interaction mode has not changed, right-clicking opens the experience in full screen, and double-clicking launches the bing login page.

in full-screen mode, users will now see two hotspots that will animate to help you discover information and display more information when hovered. clicking on a hotspot will close the full-screen experience and launch the bing login page.

scenario 1: you'll see a smaller flyout window and some hotspots that display more information on hover. clicking on a hotspot will launch the bing login page.

scenario 2: you will see a minimized spotlight experience, with hotspots showing more information when you hover over them. clicking on a hotspot will launch the bing landing page.

[windows sharing]

added the ability to share content to notepad and clipboard directly from the windows share window.

fix (gradually invite beta channel users to test)

[file manager]

we fixed an issue in recent preview builds where some insider users would experience a crash in the file manager when opening the file manager home page.

we fixed an issue in recent preview builds that caused explorer.exe to crash when the user interacted with a save file.

[start menu]

fixed an issue where some text in the start menu with the phone link feature could be unreadable.

other fixes (available to all beta channel users)

[file explorer]

the navigation pane does not update when browsing folders in a shell namespace extension.

[hibernation stop error]

the laptop stops responding after resuming from hibernation. this happens if you close and open the lid multiple times.

[Windows Hello for Business]

when a user selects the "i forgot my pin" link on the credentials screen, the pin reset does not work.

[binding filter driver]

the system might stop responding when accessing a symbolic link.

[bluetooth]

when certain bluetooth policies are deployed, external devices lose connectivity.

[microsoft entra single sign-on (sso)]

the sso notification prompts required by the european digital markets directive (dma) are too frequent. this occurs when using certificates for authentication. to learn more, see upcoming changes to windows single sign-on.

[unified write filter (uwf) and microsoft system center configuration manager (sccm)]

the sccm task to re-enable uwf fails due to a deadlock in uwf. this prevents the device from rebooting when you expect it to.

[country and operator settings assets]

this update will update the cosa configuration files for some mobile operators.

[input method editor (ime)]

a memory leak may occur when closing a combo box window while it has input focus.

[BitLocker]

users might be unable to decrypt a bitlocker data drive. this can happen when you move the drive from a newer version of windows to an older version.

known issues

[start menu]

new: the start menu's all apps list may break when the user clicks or taps a letter in it. if you encounter this issue, try restarting or relaunching explorer.exe to resolve it.
