cailianshe news, august 30 (editor: niu zhanlin)on thursday, eastern time, the u.s. food and drug administration (fda) announced that starting from september 30, people under the age of 30 must present a photo id when purchasing tobacco products, which is part of the u.s. tobacco control policy.

prior to this, the fda required retailers to verify only people under the age of 27 when selling tobacco products, so the health regulator raised the age verification requirement by three years in the hope of achieving the effect of restricting the sale of tobacco products.

but how can we determine whether a consumer is over 30 years old? this requires retailers to check the identity documents of most customers, after all, it is difficult to accurately determine the age of a customer based on appearance alone.

additionally, beginning on the same date, retailers may not sell tobacco products through vending machines in any location where anyone under 21 is present or has access at any time. previously, this prohibition applied to any location where anyone under 18 is present or has access at any time.

according to a bill signed by the us government in december 2019, the minimum age for smoking was raised from 18 to 21, and it is illegal for retailers to sell any tobacco products to people under the age of 21.
