the international telecommunication union (itu) released the latest version of the radio regulations on august 28. the document is an international treaty that governs the use of global radio spectrum and satellite orbit resources.
it is reported that the 2024 version of the international telecommunication union's radio regulations was reached after four years of negotiations and will take effect on january 1, 2025. the 2024 version of the radio regulations identifies new spectrum resources to support technological innovation, deepen global connectivity, improve the accessibility and fair use of space-based radio resources, and enhance security.
doreen bogdan-martin, secretary-general of the international telecommunication union, said that the 2024 edition of the radio regulations marks an important milestone in the technological world. as technology advances and demand for spectrum grows, the international treaty continues to be updated to accommodate new radiocommunication services and applications, minimize interference between services, and ensure fair access to this important resource.
