According to Fox News on August 26, a fisherman in West Virginia, USA, recently set a new record for the amount of fish he caught, but it was broken by someone next to him in less than two hours.
On August 8, Lindell Marker and his fishing partner Dwight Priestley were fishing on Woodlawn Lake. At 7:30 a.m., Marker caught a fish that was 44 cm long and weighed 1.29 kg. The length of the fish exceeded the previous state record, but the weight did not break. But just over an hour after Marker set the new record, at around 8:45 a.m., his friend Priestley caught a black sunfish, breaking Marker's record. The records even caught the attention of West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, who congratulated them and hoped that the new records would inspire anglers from all over to explore West Virginia's world-class fishing opportunities. "These new records are a testament to the exciting fishing opportunities on Woodlawn Lake," Brett McMillion, director of the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, said in a news release. "We are very excited to celebrate these outstanding achievements by Lindell Marker and Dwight Priestley, whose catches not only set new records, but also showcase the quality of our state's fisheries." The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources said that with these two new records, the state reported eight new record-breaking catches in 2024. (Reported by China Youth Network)
