Xinhua News Agency, Dar es Salaam, August 26 (Reporter Hua Hongli) Zanzibar President Mwinyi of Tanzania met with the 33rd Chinese medical aid team to Zanzibar at the Zanzibar Presidential Palace on the 26th, awarded honors, medals and commemorative certificates to all team members to commend their contributions to Zanzibar's medical and health cause.
At the award ceremony, Mwinyi thanked the Chinese government for its outstanding contribution to Zanzibar's medical and health care over the past 60 years, and highly praised the hard work and selfless dedication of the Chinese medical team. He pointed out that the Chinese medical team not only used advanced medical technology to treat local patients, but also took the initiative to train local medical students and doctors, and reserved talents for the development of Zanzibar's medical industry. Mwinyi said that the 33rd medical team made an extraordinary contribution to the development of Zanzibar's laparoscopic minimally invasive technology, which enabled local doctors to develop laparoscopic technology from scratch and made a qualitative leap.
Jiang Guoqing, captain of the 33rd Chinese medical team to Zanzibar, said that the Chinese medical team will continue to strengthen health cooperation and exchanges with Zanzibar, provide high-quality medical services to local people, and contribute greater strength to China-Africa friendship.
It is reported that since the 33rd Chinese Medical Aid Team arrived in Zanzibar in September last year, it has received nearly 40,000 outpatients and held 20 large-scale free clinics. The medical team is about to complete its one-year foreign aid work and return home soon.
The United Republic of Tanzania consists of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. China has been sending medical teams to Zanzibar since 1964.
