According to a report on the Israeli Times website on August 24, senior US military generals began an unannounced visit to the Middle East on the 24th to discuss how to avoid a full-scale war in the region. At the same time, Israel is preparing for retaliation from Iran.

The report said that the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Charles Brown, began his trip in Jordan and said he would also travel to Egypt and Israel in the coming days to listen to the views of military leaders. Brown said that although it was unclear what the nature and timing of Iran's vowed retaliatory attack would be, the United States was closely monitoring Iran's movements and sending reinforcements.

Brown will reportedly meet with IDF Chief of Staff Hezi Halevi and Defense Minister Yoav Galant.

Brown told reporters he would discuss with his counterparts in the region "what we can do to prevent any kind of broader escalation."

Referring to the U.S. military buildup in the region, Brown said: “We are bringing additional military capabilities to send a strong message to deter a larger conflict ... but also to protect our forces if they are attacked.”

The report also said that when Brown started his trip, a Hamas delegation came to Cairo on the 24th for ceasefire and hostage exchange negotiations. The day before, the Israeli delegation had just held talks in Cairo with mediators such as Egypt, Qatar and the United States.

Brown said if a deal was reached it would "help ease the tension," the report said.
