Let me tell you a piece of news that has been ignored by everyone.

According to media reports, on August 25, a message circulated online that the Shuanglin Plasma Donation Center in Heshun County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, invited students to donate plasma four times or more within two and a half months with a "student subsidy" of 200 yuan.

On August 26, a media reporter learned from the donation center that the donation center is also known as Heshun Shuanglin Biological Single-Donor Plasma Station. The relevant activities are true, but are limited to this area and students over 18 years old.

The posters signed by Heshun County Shuanglin Plasma Donation Center show that in order to help more students realize their dreams of studying, Heshun Shuanglin Plasma Donation Center specially organized the "Donate Plasma to Aid Education, Spread Plasma Love" event:

Any student who has donated blood or plasma four or more times between June 15 and August 31, 2024, can receive a 200 yuan student subsidy after verification at the blood source registration window after August 31, 2024, with student proof (student ID, admission notice, etc.).

The media mentioned in the report that according to the Instructions for Plasma Donors (2021 Edition):

The interval between two plasma donations shall not be less than 14 days, and the cumulative number of plasma donations within one year shall not exceed 24 times. The amount of plasma donated each time shall not exceed 600 grams (including anticoagulants).

Of course, regulations are regulations, and I believe they are authoritative, but in reality they may still differ from doctors’ clinical opinions.

Regarding the interval between blood donations, many doctors from tertiary hospitals clearly stated:

For voluntary donation of whole blood, plasma or blood components, clinical regulations stipulate that blood donation can only be done once every 6 months.

Because each time you donate blood your body will consume some of your plasma, it will take about 6 months to recover before you can reach normal blood donation targets.

Blood stations are strictly prohibited from collecting blood from donors in excess and frequently in violation of regulations. This is to ensure that the body has enough time to recover and produce enough blood cells again to supply itself and others.

Let's see what the locals say. A person claiming to be a staff member of the donation center said, "This activity is only in our area. Many students participated. We haven't counted the number yet. Many students started school midway, so we gave them the money (200 yuan in student aid) in advance. Those who didn't reach the required number will not receive it."

Zhang Zhiqiang, director of the Heshun County Health and Sports Bureau, told the media:

After sending someone to verify, the news is true.

In response to an interview with a reporter from the Runliu News, a staff member of the Heshun County Health and Family Planning Bureau said:

The plasma donation process is legal and compliant. We will communicate with the blood station to understand the concerns of netizens regarding plasma donation for education.

In response to questions about whether it is inappropriate to invite inexperienced students to donate plasma in the name of "student aid", Zhang Zhiqiang, director of the Heshun County Health and Sports Bureau, said:

People aged 18 are already adults and can think independently. They are currently counting how many students have participated in this activity. "We are not sure if there is anything wrong with the publicity, so we have communicated with the public security bureau and taken various measures. If there is anything illegal in the publicity, we will deal with it directly."

On the morning of August 26, a reporter from the Runliu News contacted the staff of Shuanglin Plasma Donation Center in Heshun County in the name of a student and learned that this activity did take place:

"It's too late. The activity is almost over... This is just an extra reward. You can also donate plasma now. We will provide corresponding compensation for lost work and travel expenses every time you donate plasma."

Look at the answer given by the blood station above. How is it different from inducing students to sell blood? And by using the "psychological pressure" rhetoric of "it's too late soon", the students are left with no space and time to think seriously.

We all know that everything depends on our parents during our school years. Except for a few students from particularly well-off families, most students are actually very tight financially.

Especially for students who have just reached adulthood, their so-called "independent thinking" ability is very weak... When they face such temptations and "oppressive" marketing methods, how many financially constrained students can resist it?

In the words of a local: Selling blood four times, calculated based on the minimum blood draw, is more than 200 yuan. In the name of donating blood to help students, they tricked naive students into donating blood. This is a fraud and a crime. These beasts!

This reminds me of another tragedy caused by blood donation in Shanxi Province not long ago:

According to previous media reports, an incident that attracted widespread public attention occurred in Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. A 19-year-old boy died accidentally after donating blood 16 times.

It was reported that 19-year-old boy Zhao died mysteriously on the evening of March 16.

Previously, he had donated blood 16 times in a row at a plasma station in Xinfu District, Xinzhou City. This incident caused heated discussions on the Internet, and the family members questioned whether the blood station was soliciting people to donate blood.

According to the New Yellow River report, on January 15, 2024, Zhao Wei, a 19-year-old boy living in Jingle County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, suddenly died at home.

When sorting out his belongings, his father Zhao Zhijie discovered that Zhao Wei had his plasma drawn for 16 times in a row in the eight months before his death, and the shortest interval between "donating blood" was 12 days.

Among the belongings was a medical examination report issued by Zhao Wei at a local hospital ten days before his death. The diagnosis showed that he had severe anemia and suspected hematopoietic dysfunction.

Zhao Wei's mobile phone chat records recorded the process of him being taken to the "Xinzhou Plasma Station" to sell plasma. The "contact person" paid him about 260 to 300 yuan each time.

In response to the doubts, the Xinzhou officials involved and the Heshun County officials in this incident said exactly the same thing:

Zhao Wei meets the requirements for plasma collection, and the company works strictly in accordance with national regulations. If his family has any objections, they can take legal action.

As public opinion paid close attention, the local authorities announced the establishment of a special investigation and disposal task force headed by the district party committee and government leaders, and composed of the district health and sports bureau, district discipline inspection and supervision commission, and the Xinzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau's direct branch, to investigate the situation reflected on the Internet.

According to Xinzhou officials:

On the afternoon of March 19, the company involved suspended operations for rectification and cooperated with the investigation.

On March 20, the investigation has been fully launched, and we will announce the relevant situation to the public in a timely manner.

However, five months have passed since then, and there has been no news of Xinzhou's so-called "timely announcement of investigation results."
