Brothers and sisters, let’s take a quick look at the news about the US election tonight.

Harris campaign raises $500 million

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign said on August 25 that it has raised $540 million since she launched her presidential campaign more than a month ago. According to Harris' team, this total set a record for any campaign in the same period in history.

Campaign chairwoman Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a memo that the campaign received a large amount of grassroots donations during last week's Democratic National Convention, totaling $82 million. The hour after Harris' speech on the last night of the convention also became the most fundraising period since the launch of the campaign.

According to the memo, the campaign set a record for hourly donations after Harris' closing speech.

Women have become the main force behind the influx of funds. Harris's team said that one-third of donations last week came from first-time donors, two-thirds of whom were women. The campaign said teachers and nurses remain among the most common professions among donors.

In addition to the influx of donations, the campaign said it was its busiest week yet for organizing, with nearly 200,000 volunteers signing up for shifts since Monday.

Harris's camp called the Democratic National Convention a "moment of motivation" that galvanized and mobilized volunteers and grassroots supporters, but added that the team is not slowing down as the campaign enters its home stretch.

According to statistics, within 11 days after Harris started her presidential campaign, she attracted more than 2.4 million donors, nearly 200,000 more donors than President Biden received during his more than one year campaign.

In a memo sent out by the Trump campaign on Saturday, Trump pollsters Tony Fabrizio and Travis Tunis predicted that Vice President Harris could see an uptick in the polls after the Democratic National Convention.

"We may see another small (albeit temporary) uptick for Harris in public polls following the Democratic National Convention," the memo read. "This phenomenon typically occurs after most party conventions, so don't be surprised to see a temporary 2-3 percentage point increase in Harris' support."

Fabrizio wrote in July that he expected Harris to experience a "honeymoon period" after replacing Biden as the Democratic nominee - a prediction that has certainly come true. Before the end of his reelection campaign, Biden was ranked 45% in CNN polls, trailing Trump's 49%. But on the eve of the convention, the situation changed, and CNN polls showed Harris at 50% to Trump's 48%.

Fabrizio now expects Harris' honeymoon period to be extended, attributing it largely to favorable media coverage of the vice president.

Trump steps up campaign to counter Harris' rise

Trump’s frequent comments on social media as Harris delivered a rousing speech not only underscored his concerns about Harris’s continued momentum but also signaled a new, aggressive phase in his campaign, with Trump scheduling more events in key battleground states and stepping up his outreach to young men and other voters he sees as crucial to victory.

As Harris galvanized delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week, Trump suddenly became active, holding events in five states in five days. He gave numerous interviews and contrasted Harris on the economy, crime and immigration.

Trump has privately said he could lose the November election if he doesn't drastically change his campaign strategy, according to people familiar with the matter.

The prospect of Trump returning to the White House is a far less certain prospect than it was more than a month ago, when he and Republicans celebrated at a convention in Milwaukee. After surviving an assassination attempt, many Republicans viewed Trump's election victory as inevitable.

Weeks later, amid soaring poll numbers for Harris and positive news coverage of her candidacy, Trump and his team began to feel uneasy.

Trump's advisers said that Trump's pace was relatively slow when Biden was still in the race, but now he will be more active on the campaign trail. On Monday, Trump will give a speech to the National Guard in Detroit. He will then attend events elsewhere in Michigan and Wisconsin on Thursday, and then hold a rally in Pennsylvania on Friday.
