Changchun Film Festival丨Old filmmakers tell: How was the movie "Gunshots in the Secret Service" which was watched by 600 million people created?
Xinhua News Agency, Changchun, August 24 (Reporters Zhao Dandan and Li Dian) In June 1979, the film "The Gunshots of the Secret Bureau" produced by Changchun Film Studio was released nationwide. At that time, a movie ticket only cost 30 cents. Even so, this film still created a box office "myth" of 180 million yuan, with a total of 600 million people watching the film. On the eve of the opening of the 19th China Changchun Film Festival, the reporter interviewed Jin Deshun, one of the screenwriters of the film "The Gunshots of the Secret Bureau", and listened to the old filmmaker tell the story of the film.

The 80-year-old Jin Deshun officially joined Changchun Film Studio in 1970 and has worked in the film and television industry for 54 years. As a screenwriter and director, he has participated in the production of more than 50 film and television works, including "Gunshots in the Secret Bureau", "The Story That Should Not Happen", "The Moon is Silent", "Desolate Earth", and "Hey, Brother". He has won many awards including the National Excellent Film Award, Hundred Flowers Award, Golden Rooster Special Award, and Feitian Award.

Speaking of "Gunshots in the Secret Service", Jin Deshun recalled that after the film was released, many cinemas started showing it at 4 a.m. every day and continued until midnight. Every show was packed, and some people watched it several times.
Jin Deshun believes that the presentation of a good film is inseparable from the close cooperation of various departments such as the director, actors, cameramen, costumes and props, but having a good script is the key prerequisite. "The script is the foundation of a play. Without a good script as a foundation, it is difficult for even the best director to make a classic film." How to create a good script requires hard work and real effort.
Jin Deshun recalled that the script creation of "The Gunshots of the Secret Bureau" was based on the novel, but it was just a framework. In order to collect more comprehensive and detailed information at the time, he and another screenwriter Zheng Quan visited many cities such as Chongqing, Beijing, Wuhan, Nanjing, and Shanghai. In Chongqing, they met Zhang Ruifang, a revolutionary predecessor who actually worked in the underground party. Her story added a lot of vivid and real details to the script creation. In the Shanghai Archives, the real deeds of an underground party member made them decide to add a supporting role in the script that left a deep impression on the audience-the third brother Chang Liang.
With sufficient and detailed information as a basis, Zheng Quan and Jin Deshun began to concentrate on their creation in Qingdao and stayed there for two months. "We were so close to the seaside at that time, but we didn't even have time to go and see it," said Jin Deshun.
What should be pursued in the creation of film scripts? Jin Deshun summarized six points, namely "truth", "depth", "beauty", "emotion", "novelty" and "strangeness". Jin Deshun believes that to write a good script, first of all, the theme must be positive, healthy and full of positive energy, secondly, the emotions must be well written and the human touch must be sufficient, and finally the screenwriter must have unique insights into life and be good at observing, understanding and refining life, because life is the source of creation.
Recently, Changchun Film Studio has created "Changchun Film Studio's 100 Red Classic Film Radio Dramas". "Gunshots in the Secret Bureau" as the first work has been broadcast online and has been well received by the public.
