Faced with the test of high temperatures, Chongqing's coal-fired power, gas turbines and other power sources are fully powered and fully supplied. The reporter learned from the Chongqing Municipal Energy Bureau that, unlike previous years, new energy storage has become a "new force" in Chongqing's power supply. At present, the installed capacity of Chongqing's grid-side energy storage projects has reached 1.4 million kilowatts, comparable to a large thermal power station, with an additional peak power capacity of 1.4 million kilowatts.
The reporter learned that Chongqing is the only power receiving province in the west, and its power supply has been in a tight balance for a long time. In addition, the power consumption has a large peak-to-valley difference, and the demand for energy storage is huge. In recent years, Chongqing has actively deployed energy storage projects, and the flexible adjustment capacity of the power system has been effectively improved, and it plays an important role in "peak shaving" when the power load is large during the peak summer.
Wang Zuxun, director of the Chongqing Energy Bureau, introduced that new energy storage is known as a "super charger" with the advantages of fast construction, small investment, small footprint, and flexible charging and discharging. Chongqing has planned to build a number of new energy storage projects since 2023, and has now built 13 grid-side energy storage projects with a total scale of 1.4 million kilowatts, adding 1.4 million kilowatts of peak power capacity and 2.8 million kilowatts of peak-to-valley capacity within the grid, effectively improving the city's power security capabilities.

"Start dispatching!" Recently, Liao Heng, the duty stationmaster of Longsheng Energy Storage Power Station in Liangjiang New District, issued a dispatching order, and the electricity stored in 84 battery compartments was sent back to Shuangxi 220 kV substation. After the additional 150,000 kilowatts of power supply, the power supply pressure in the area was instantly relieved. Li Songling, the person in charge of the project operation center, introduced that as the largest energy storage power station in Chongqing's main urban area, Longsheng Energy Storage Power Station was fully put into operation at the end of July. The power station can realize two charges and discharges per day, and can discharge up to 600,000 kWh, which can meet the daily electricity needs of 100,000 households.
In the early morning of the 23rd, in Zhengyang Industrial Park, Qianjiang District, the Qinggang Energy Storage Power Station of GCL Group was charging the battery compartments. All 20 battery compartments were fully charged in just over 2 hours. Huang Huayong, head of the State Grid Qianjiang Power Supply Company, said that the southeastern region of Chongqing is rich in wind power resources. Wind power is mainly generated at night, but the power load during this period is not high; and during the day and evening when power consumption is at its peak, it is difficult for wind power to generate power. After "transferring and moving", the energy storage power station stores the wind power that cannot be consumed at night, and releases the power to the urban area for consumption during the day, which not only enhances the power supply capacity, but also promotes the development of local new energy.

In addition, the reporter also learned that in order to further enhance Chongqing's power supply capacity during the peak summer season, promote the optimal allocation and efficient use of power resources, and promote Chongqing's green and low-carbon energy transformation, the Chongqing Virtual Power Plant was officially put into operation in July. The virtual power plant can "integrate the large number, wide distribution, and small-scale demand-side resources into a whole, and aggregate them into a tower" through aggregation. It will be included in the overall dispatch of the city's virtual power plants, improve Chongqing's power dispatching capabilities, and enrich the means of power supply during the peak summer season. It is reported that the Chongqing Virtual Power Plant has recently officially participated in the peak summer power supply demand response, achieving a maximum load reduction of 91,200 kilowatts.
