Changsha Evening News Changsha on Palm August 24 (All-media reporter Zhao Ziming, correspondent Zhang Moyu) On August 23, the 2024 3rd China Youth Football League (hereinafter referred to as "China Youth League") Men's U13 National Finals came to an end in Shenyang. Changsha Yali Foreign Language School (hereinafter referred to as "Yawai") football team staged a wonderful reversal in the finals, defeating Nanchang Hongcheng U13 3-1 and winning the national championship, creating the best record since the school was founded, and also the best result of Hunan football in the China Youth Football League. On the afternoon of the 24th, this group of proud football teenagers returned to Changsha with the championship trophy.
Hard work pays off, the championship is well deserved
At around 2 p.m., the young football players from Yawai walked out of the exit of the arrival hall. Their family members, friends, school leaders, and provincial and municipal football association staff who had been waiting for a long time presented them with flowers and cheered for the young players.
"There were surprises and accidents in this competition, but we did our best in every aspect and got the desired results." Wen Fan, head coach of the Yawai U13 football team, said that the team has always adhered to its own style and scientific training, and the final victory was well deserved.
This year's China Youth Championship U13 National Finals has 72 teams participating, covering professional teams, campus football and social youth training institutions, representing the highest level of China's U13 youth football training. Last year, the Yawai U13 football team participated in the China Youth Championship for the first time and achieved the top 12 results. "At that time, we felt very hard to advance to the top 12, which made us realize that there is a certain gap between us and the traditional campus football teams and the youth training teams of top professional clubs. The team still needs to learn and grow more."
It is understood that Changsha's campus football teams have always insisted on studying and training at the same time. For example, after completing their daily study tasks, the players of Yawai will train for two hours, six days a week. "They work harder than ordinary children. They don't have a break during winter and summer vacations. They are either playing games or training."
After hard training, the Yawai U13 football team has improved its performance this year: they advanced as the second place in the group stage; in the knockout stage, they first met the U13 team of Shandong Taishan, the "benchmark of Chinese football youth training". The two sides tied 1-1 in regular time. In the tense penalty shootout, Yawai U13 narrowly won 5-4 and successfully entered the semi-finals; in the semi-final on August 20, Yawai U13 defeated Shenzhen 2028 Yucai Experimental U13 1-0 and met Nanchang Hongcheng U13 in the final; in the final, Yali U13 fought back and scored three goals in a row after conceding a goal first, reversed the victory over Nanchang Hongcheng U13 and won the championship trophy.
"Winning the championship is the result of everyone's joint efforts. Although we are competing as a school, we represent Hunan campus football and shoulder the responsibility of restoring the reputation of campus football," said Wen Fan.
Cultivate champion players and also cultivate champion coaches
Among the returning team, there is also an old face of Changsha campus football - Zeng Hu, the head coach of the Yali Foreign Language School football team. After graduating from university in 1994, he entered Yali Middle School. From the Yali headquarters to Nan Ya, to Yali Yuhua, and now to Yali Foreign Language, Zeng Hu has been responsible for the training of the school's junior high school football team. In this ordinary position, Zeng Hu has worked for 30 years and has been committed to football for 30 years.
In 2017, Zeng Hu was selected to study in France. After returning to China, he started to use a scientific, overall style of play based on passing and controlling. "I asked everyone to improve and strengthen on this basis, and at the same time integrate their own things, not only athletes but also young coaches." Zeng Hu said that the team has been working hard and doing everything down to earth.
In November 2020, Zeng Hu led the Yali Foreign Language School football team to win the National Junior High School Football Championship and the 18th Gymnasium Football Trials, and he was awarded the best coach.
Zeng Hu is the team leader for this China Youth Championship. "Wen Fan is my student and a young coach. This is his first time leading a team to play in such a large-scale national competition. When we encounter some problems, we will communicate and discuss together, and I will also give him some suggestions."
Four years ago, he was a national champion coach. Four years later, the coaches he coached also became national champions. Zeng Hu is very pleased about this: "The children in the school have been making progress, and the level of our coaches is also constantly improving. The team we have built has a system and combat effectiveness. This competition has been recognized by various teams, which makes me happiest."
As for the next step, Zeng Hu said he wants to train more champion coaches: "I have trained many champion players, and now I have a champion coach, but one is not enough."
