The political situation on the island has changed. Three of Lai Ching-te's direct subordinates were all dismissed within a week. Infighting within the DPP's upper echelons continues. So can Lai Ching-te still have the last laugh?

Although Lai Ching-te has been in office as the leader of Taiwan for three months, the political situation on the island has not eased and stabilized. Instead, it has become increasingly turbulent with the emergence of a series of unexpected situations. Recently, DPP legislator Lin Yi-jin was searched by the Tainan District Prosecutor's Office because the legislator was suspected of fraudulently claiming assistant fees. In response to the search operation initiated by the Tainan Prosecutor's Office, Lin Yi-jin proved her innocence on social media and said that she would cooperate with the judicial department to investigate the case.Considering that Lin Yi-jin is Lai Qingde's confidant and is also known as Lai Qingde's "distinguished soldier", it is generally believed that her sudden search by the Tainan prosecutors this time should have a lot to do with the high-level factional struggle within the DPP. It should be noted that Lin Yi-jin is not the first one. The former head of the Taiwan Transportation Department, Li Mengyan, and the former spokesperson of the Taiwan Administrative Agency, Chen Zongyan, have also been arrested in the past week.

It is reported that Li Mengyan was forced to resign due to the influence of an extramarital affair, while Chen Zongyan resigned voluntarily because of the scandal. In a short period of time, negative information about these three people was dug up one after another, and it was obvious that it was the internal faction of the DPP that was behind this.Because whether it is the Kuomintang or the People's Party, if they had any dirty laundry on DPP politicians, they would not have kept it until now. They would have brought it out as a "trump card" to lower the DPP's support rate during the island's elections at the beginning of this year. But it was not until now that these three scandals were exposed one after another. It is obvious that they were done by DPP insiders. After all, only they have the ability to dig out these important dirty laundry. Moreover, the factional struggle within the Democratic Progressive Party has become open and heated recently, which is no longer a secret on the island. Some time ago, Tsai Ing-wen's confidant, Straits Exchange Foundation Chairman Zheng Wencan was detained by Taoyuan prosecutors on suspicion of corruption. Although he was allowed to go out after being released on bail, everyone knows that if Tsai Ing-wen does not come forward, Zheng Wencan will most likely face imprisonment.

Choosing to take action against Zheng Wencan is, in a sense, Lai Ching-te's way of clearing out Tsai Ing-wen's residual influence within the DPP. After all, during the past eight years when Tsai Ing-wen was in charge of Taiwan, she had established her own unique influence within the DPP. Even if she steps down as the leader of Taiwan, no one dares to ignore Tsai Ing-wen's influence within the DPP. As long as she gives an order, Tsai's people within the DPP will certainly follow her lead. This situation is absolutely unacceptable to Lai Ching-te, who has a strong desire for control. Therefore,After Lai Qingde came to power, only his voice was allowed to exist within the DPP, and other dissenting and opposing voices were eliminated, which was also the key factor in his first shot against Tsai. What Lai Qingde did not expect was that his arbitrary elimination of opposing voices within the DPP would break the factional balance that the DPP had maintained for a long time, exacerbating the DPP’s internal fighting, which is also his biggest headache at present.

Although the people from other factions of the DPP do not hold high positions, they still have considerable influence in the island's political arena. Even the supporters behind some of their representatives are people that Lai Ching-te is very afraid of. Therefore, these factions will definitely not sit idly by. The fall of Lai Ching-te's three followers is a "greeting gift" they gave to Lai Ching-te.If Lai Ching-te insists on being the only dominant party, the infighting within the DPP will intensify, and may even trigger a "major earthquake" in the island's political arena. As for whether the People's Party and the Kuomintang can seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to increase their support rate and influence, it depends on the political wisdom of people like Ko Wen-je and Zhu Lilun.
