The two ships mentioned in the notice are the detachment of the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet that set out from Vladivostok on January 22 this year to carry out a long-distance voyage. In several consecutive notices issued by the Joint Headquarters on January 23, 24 and 26, the two ships passed through the Tsushima Strait and crossed the first island chain into the Pacific Ocean.

After entering the Pacific Ocean, the two ships entered the Indian Ocean through the Strait of Malacca on February 14. After the two ships visited Sri Lanka and Qatar respectively, the fleet arrived in Iran on March 11, and carried out the China-Russia-Iran "Security Bond-2024" trilateral naval exercise from March 11 to 15. The Varyag and the Pacific Fleet have been involved in quite a few long-distance voyages in recent years. At the end of 2021, the "Varyag" set out with the "Admiral Tributs" formation, entered the Mediterranean in early February 2022 to confront the US Navy aircraft carrier strike group. At that time, the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out and continued to cruise in the Mediterranean. When it returned in November 2022, it had been sailing abroad for more than 10 months.
