Mao Ning introduced that at the invitation of China, Bishop, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Myanmar, visited China from August 20 to 21. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, and Deng Xijun, the Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with her respectively and exchanged in-depth views on the Myanmar issue.
Mao Ning said that China respects Myanmar's sovereignty, independence, national unity and territorial integrity, adheres to non-interference in its internal affairs, insists on a peace process owned and led by the Myanmar people, supports ASEAN in playing a leading role, and hopes that ASEAN's "Five-Point Consensus" on Myanmar and Myanmar's new "Five-Point Roadmap" can promote each other and be effectively implemented.
Mao Ning said that China supports the United Nations in playing a constructive role in the political settlement of the Myanmar issue and is willing to provide support and assistance to the Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Myanmar in performing his duties. China hopes that the Special Envoy will uphold an objective and fair position, handle relations between all parties in a balanced manner, proceed from the long-term interests of the Myanmar people, and assist Myanmar in finding an effective way to bridge differences.
