The wind blows hard on the plateau in early autumn, and the officers and soldiers' oaths resound through the clouds.
"I volunteer to join the Communist Party of China, support the party's program, and abide by the party's constitution..." One day in early August, Sergeant Tsering Lob of a border defense regiment of the Tibet Military Region and his comrades lined up neatly and faced the party flag to review the party oath. Afterwards, Tsering Lob quickly packed his luggage and led the team to patrol the border again.
When leading the team to an expedition, whenever they reached a dangerous area with steep terrain, Ci Luobu always stood at the front without hesitation. When passing through the "Blade Back Mountain", he took the lead in exploring the way, and his footprints became the signposts for the way forward; when crossing the "Eagle's Beak Cliff", he took the lead in attacking, laying down anchor points to pull up a safety barrier. The soldiers all said that he was the "Tibet Eagle" who "led the soldiers to soar on the top of the snow-capped mountains."
Last year, Cirob led the team to participate in the last patrol before the Spring Festival. The patrol team walked on a mountain with an altitude of more than 4,700 meters, where there was a lack of oxygen, extreme cold, and few people. The raindrops hit the helmet and splashed on the face, making it cold. This mission was also Cirob's 45th patrol after returning from the "Ring of Elbrus" competition.
As the altitude increased, the wind and rain turned into a blizzard.
"Everyone, pay attention, there is a blizzard ahead, follow my footsteps." The extreme weather did not disrupt Ci Luobu's patrol rhythm. Based on his experience, he used ropes to connect everyone and walked in front to lead the way. After 6 hours of arduous journey, the team finally arrived at the patrol point, and the officers and soldiers unfurled the national flag to solemnly declare sovereignty.
From the front line of missions to international arenas, from daily training to live-fire exercises, from the bustling Chongqing to the snowy plateau, since joining the army, Ci Luobu has served in multiple combat positions, completed many difficult and dangerous tasks, and grown into a "Tibetan Eagle" in the eyes of his comrades.
Ci Luobu was born in a rural family in Dagze, Tibet. He grew up listening to his grandfather telling stories about the changes in Tibet. The belief that "Jinzhu Mami is the closest person" was deeply rooted in his heart early on, and his ambition to join the army and serve the country gradually sprouted.
After growing up, Ci Luobu signed up for the army three times and finally realized his dream of joining the army. After joining the army, he trained hard. In the 5km cross-country run, his comrades ran one lap, while he ran two laps with sandbags tied to his body. Others ran "three hundred" every day, but he doubled it to "three two hundred" every day. His tactical movements were not standard, and he practiced lying down hundreds of times every day. In his first year of joining the army, Ci Luobu broke many military training records such as the battalion and company 3km run, 5km cross-country run, and rifle shooting. In the second year, he won the first place in the comprehensive assessment of the pre-promotion command sergeant.
After arriving in Tibet, Tsering has been working hard on the remote and difficult patrol routes. He has been patrolling many times and is experienced, and is a well-known patrol "living map" in the company, so he always walks in front of the patrol team on every mission to clear the way for the patrol team.
For the "patrol rookies" who are performing patrol missions for the first time, he always asks them to follow his footsteps, and his comrades are also happy to follow him. As soldier Liu Hongbin said: "In the patrol team, the second squad leader is our insurance and the barrier of our safety."
In December 2019, during a snow patrol, as the altitude increased, the air became thinner. Ci Luobu and his comrades struggled to move forward on the mountain road covered with thick snow. They consumed more and more energy, and some soldiers' lips had turned black and blue.
In the blizzard, the officers and soldiers' vision became increasingly blurred. Corporal Zhao Guoce, who was on patrol for the first time, lost his way while stumbling. Suddenly, with a "crack", the ice under Zhao Guoce's feet broke and his body quickly sank into the snow.
"Hurry, save him!" the company commander shouted loudly. Ci Luobu beside him was quick-witted and quickly rescued Zhao Guoce by using the telescopic ladder on his back. Looking at the freezing "ice hole", Zhao Guoce sat paralyzed on the snow for a long time without saying a word.
Over the years, Ci Rob has always maintained a charging posture, with 23 injuries on his body and 5 brushes with death. But when those wounds scab over, he becomes more skilled and stronger in will.
That year, Cirob participated in the "Ring of Elbrus" international military competition. He had to "add extra food" to himself every day, and practiced and passed 15 subjects such as speed climbing, orienteering, cliff rescue, etc. During a 40-kilometer weighted march training, Cirob's waist injury recurred, but he endured the pain and took a short rest before continuing to sprint. Seeing this, his comrades repeatedly advised him to rest, but he refused.
With the determination to win, Ci Luobu used super-intensive training to stimulate his body to adjust to the best condition. With the elimination selection again and again, his overall score also improved from 7th to 1st. In the European competition, Ci Luobu and his comrades jointly achieved excellent results of 3 first places in individual events, 6 second places in individual events, and second place in team results.
After returning from the international military competition with honors, Rob started to share his experience with his comrades. His innovative training methods such as "rabbit jumping method", "fast breathing adjustment method" and "three-point climbing technique" have been promoted throughout the regiment. Over the years, he has "strived to be a master and bring out good apprentices". Among the soldiers he led, there have been many elite warriors. 15 of them won prizes in various competitions, 1 soldier was promoted to officer, 4 grew into squad leaders, 2 were awarded second-class merit, and 5 were awarded third-class merit.
On the field, Rob is a warrior who wins glory for his country; when he returns to the company, he is a steel nail defending the country and guarding the border.
A patrol route in the company's defense zone requires crossing eight snow-capped mountains, wading through more than ten glaciers, and passing through natural dangers such as "Knife-back Mountain" and "A Line of Sky" to reach the point. Each patrol is no less than a battle. During the patrol, officers and soldiers not only carry 25 kilograms of equipment, but also a 30-kilogram steel ladder for use in dangerous areas. In some areas, the road surface is less than 30 centimeters wide, and there is a hundred-foot abyss below. Standing on it is like walking on a tightrope in mid-air.
During one patrol, Ci Luobu was cleaning moss with a machete and was about to move forward when his left foot slipped and he rolled down the slope. In a moment of shock, he held on to the rock wall with his right hand and luckily managed to grab a branch to escape death. Having experienced many life-and-death tests, Ci Luobu always insisted on walking at the front of the team during each patrol, eliminating all kinds of risks in advance and leading the team forward safely.
This time, Rob wrote in his notebook: On the border, I am the moving boundary marker of the motherland; on the international arena, I am the pride of Chinese soldiers. In the 10 years since he joined the army, he has carried forward the fighting spirit of "making mountains bow their heads and glaciers give way", measuring the border of the motherland with his footsteps, successfully completing more than 100 patrol missions, traveling more than 5,000 kilometers, and won two second-class merits and one third-class merit.
