In the selection of the 5th Nanhai Art Award of Hainan Province, the original dance "Nanhai Capriccio" by the male dance troupe of Jiaji Middle School in Qionghai won the award. The dance won the first prize of the 7th National Primary and Secondary School Art Exhibition hosted by the Ministry of Education in 2022, the 19th Star Award, the highest government award in the field of national mass art, and was selected into the list of projects funded by the National Art Fund (General Project) in 2023. It was rated as the "14th National Dance Exhibition Outstanding Program" and was the only representative of Hainan to participate in the final review of contemporary dance and modern dance at the 13th China Dance "Lotus Award". The dance shows the charm of contemporary middle school dance aesthetic education and has won wide attention and praise.
The original dance "South China Sea Capriccio" is a contemporary theme work with military caps as the carrier, choreographed by Gu Liangliang, Yan Ye'an and Li Xuanshuang. The work tells the story of the People's Liberation Army liberating Hainan Island with the cooperation of the Qiongya Column, and many soldiers died heroically in this naval battle. The work was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hainan Island, and remember the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Hainan Island.
Recently, Yan Ye'an introduced the creativity of the dance to our reporter. "Rhapsody in the South China Sea" is a breakthrough in the creation of military-themed dances. Its biggest feature is that it breaks away from the overly realistic expression of previous war themes, and instead uses body language to promote plot changes, highlight the dance itself, and enrich artistic expression. The dancers use their bodies to mimic the rolling of waves, making the waves the storyteller and experiencer. In the dance, the waves are sometimes calm and sometimes deep, and when the war comes, they become turbulent, and the military cap is like a belief that will never sink, just like a battle flag riding the wind and waves, breaking through the darkness and lighting up the dawn.
"The works show the spirit of contemporary Chinese youth who inherit the red gene, continue the spiritual bloodline, embark on a new journey and forge ahead into a new era. Although the glorious years of the red era are far away from us, we will always remember the revolutionary sentiments and the bravery of the revolutionary martyrs. The youth of the new era must listen to the party, follow the party unswervingly, look to the future based on the present, be high-spirited and enterprising, dedicate themselves to the motherland and the people, and let the great banner of patriotism fly high." Yan Ye'an said, "We set sail in the sea of our hearts and hold high the red faith; we ride on the waves of the South China Sea and pursue our dreams of Hainan in the new era."
Yan Ye'an said that two-thirds of the students who participated in the performance were freshmen. They persisted in rehearsal with knee and waist injuries, holding back tears. No one wanted to give up and drag the team down. After more than a month of joint efforts, the students finally burst into passion in the magnificent melody of "Nanhai Capriccio", and strengthened their red faith in the vigorous group dance. The fluttering red flags excited the entire theater and won warm applause and cheers from the audience.
