Introduction
In recent years, the number of students taking the Guangzhou high school entrance examination has continued to rise. In 2024, the number of students who applied for the high school entrance examination was 126,000, an increase of about 5,000 from the previous year. As we all know, reaching the general high school score line does not necessarily mean that you will be admitted to a general high school. How many points do children in the 11 districts of Guangzhou have to take to be admitted to a public general high school?
Admission scores for public high schools in 11 districts
According to statistics from Yangcheng Evening News, the minimum scores for the third and fourth batches of high school entrance examinations in Guangzhou's 11 districts are: 608 points in the old three districts (Yuexiu 622 points, Haizhu 622 points, Liwan 608 points), Tianhe 610 points, Huangpu 542 points, Panyu 542 points, Baiyun 542 points, Nansha 542 points, Huadu 542 points, Zengcheng 542 points, Conghua 502 points. This year, the minimum control line for admission to public high schools is 502 points.
It should be noted that the three old districts are considered as one area for enrollment, and 608 points is the lowest admission score for public high schools in the three districts. Specifically, the minimum admission scores for public high schools in Yuexiu, Haizhu, and Liwan are 622, 622, and 608 points, respectively. Students and parents who want to enroll in public high schools nearby in the district should pay attention to the differences between the districts.
From the data, it can be seen that in the old three districts and Tianhe District, students with scores below 600 have to prepare for both scenarios: either take advantage of the "benefits" of reducing the score by 40 points, or do enough homework to apply for schools in other districts. In particular, families facing the high school entrance examination in the next two or three years should be reminded not to wait until the third year of junior high school to fill in the application form before "cramming", but to investigate schools in other districts one or two years in advance.
For students from Huangpu, Panyu, Baiyun, Nansha, Huadu and Zengcheng, it will be difficult to be admitted to public high schools in the third and fourth batches if the score is below 542.
There are 6637 district-level general high schools in the district. What are the chances of applying from outside the district?
According to the policy, the proportion of out-of-district enrollment for schools that are eligible to recruit students from other districts is usually 15%. However, this year the Municipal Admissions Office adjusted and optimized the proportion of out-of-district plans, allowing 15 district-owned general high schools with better operating conditions to arrange no more than 25% of their enrollment plans for recruiting students from other districts.
Data from the Municipal Admissions Office show that in 2024, the city's district-owned general high schools have a total of 6,637 out-of-district plans, and 3,609 students were admitted in batches one to four, an increase of 536 from 2023. The 15 schools whose out-of-district plan ratio was adjusted to 25% admitted a total of 1,297 out-of-district candidates, and the utilization rate of out-of-district plans reached 74.24%. Among them, the utilization rate of out-of-district plans of five schools, including Huangpu District Kaiyuan School, Guangzhou Experimental Middle School, Huangpu Suyuan School, No. 2 Middle School Nansha Tianyuan School, and Conghua District Liuxi Middle School, was 100%.
This year, all registered and non-registered students are admitted in the same sequence, that is, in the process of filing and admission, students are ranked in a row from high to low according to their scores for unified admission. In other words, everyone stands on the same line to compete with each other for scores, so scores are still king.
Why is it that even if you reach the general high school score line, you may not be admitted?
Why is it that even if the scores reach the minimum control score for admission to ordinary high schools, it is not necessarily possible to be admitted to ordinary high schools? The Guangzhou Admissions Office explained that if the scores of candidates reach the minimum control score for admission to ordinary high schools, it only means that the candidates are qualified to participate in the filing of ordinary high schools, but whether they can be admitted to ordinary high schools in the end is directly related to the filing and admission of the district where the candidates are located and the volunteer schools they have filled in. At the same time, there are certain differences between regions and schools, and the minimum scores for admission to district-level ordinary high schools in different districts are different.
What students and parents need to understand is that the minimum admission score for a school is not artificially set, but rather "voted". During the admission process, according to the admission regulations, the minimum admission score generated after all candidates who have applied for a certain school have completed the filing process based on their preferences and high school entrance exam scores is naturally generated after the admission is completed. Therefore, the minimum admission score of each school will fluctuate due to the combined influence of factors such as the enrollment policy, enrollment plan, number of applicants, source structure, score distribution, and volunteer application of the year.
