According to reports, the deceased officer was named Shahar Ben Noon, 21 years old, and was a company commander of the reconnaissance unit of the Israeli paratrooper brigade. The incident took place in Khan Yunis, a major town in Gaza. At around 6:30 a.m. that day, an Israeli F-15 fighter jet fired two missiles, one of which deviated from its direction due to technical problems and hit a multi-story building about 300 meters away from the target, causing casualties among the Israeli paratroopers stationed in the building.

The reporter noticed that there had been several incidents of "accidentally injuring friendly forces" in Israel's previous military operations.

On May 16, 2024, the Israel Defense Forces announced that a serious accidental injury incident occurred in Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip on the 15th, killing five Israeli soldiers and injuring seven others, three of whom were seriously injured. These soldiers all served in the 202nd Battalion of the Paratrooper Brigade.

According to the IDF's preliminary investigation, a tank operating with paratroopers at the Jabaliya camp fired two shells at a building where soldiers were gathered at around 19:00 on the 15th. The tank unit spotted a gun barrel through a window of the building and thought it was an enemy weapon, so it fired two shells.

On January 8, 2024, an Israeli tank in the Gaza Strip spotted a suspicious target and opened fire. A shell hit a telephone pole, which fell down and ignited explosives on an Israeli truck. When the explosion occurred, a team of Israeli engineers were still in the tunnel. The explosion also injured eight Israeli soldiers, several of whom were seriously injured.

A statistical data at the end of 2023 showed that among the Israeli soldiers killed in the Gaza Strip, 20 were killed due to "friendly fire and other accidents", including 13 soldiers killed in accidental air strikes, artillery fire and shootings by friendly forces, another soldier was shot and killed by stray bullets from friendly forces, two soldiers were killed in accidental fires, two soldiers were killed in armored vehicle crushing incidents, and two soldiers were killed by shrapnel from explosives deliberately detonated by the Israeli army.
