In order to strengthen youth sports work, promote the all-round development of mass sports and competitive sports, and accelerate the construction of a sports power", the 2024 Beijing Indoor Skydiving Basic Flight Challenge, hosted by the Beijing Aviation Sports Association and organized by Beijing Changfei Sports Culture Co., Ltd., was successfully held at the Aviator Beijing Space Experience Hall in Shunyi COFCO Xiangyun Town. The competition attracted the active participation of more than 60 amateur indoor skydiving (wind tunnel) enthusiasts, injected new vitality into national fitness, and further promoted the sound development of Beijing's sports industry.
Niu Zhiyuan, principal of Beijing Aviation Sports School, said in an interview: "By hosting this event, the comprehensive ability of aviation sports enthusiasts, especially young people, in aviation sports has been improved. At the same time, it has also allowed the general public to experience this aviation science and technology sports project that combines fun, competition and viewing, and has enhanced the public's understanding of this emerging fashion sport."
As one of the important contents of the 5th Beijing Aviation Sports Exhibition and Experience Season, this competition has set two events: basic flight and double modeling. Among them, basic flight includes four subjects: eight-shaped circling, circling, precise touch, and rope skipping in the wind, and is divided into youth and adult groups.
After two days and three rounds of fierce competition, the first, second and third place in the youth group were won by Chen Xiluo, Li Yuxuan and Niu Zeyuan respectively; the first, second and third place in the adult group were won by Liu Yichan, Guo Yinuo and Nanyang respectively. In the double modeling event, Liu Yichan, Liu Bolin, Li Yuxuan, Li Yujia, Niu Zeyuan and Chen Xiluo won the first, second and third place respectively.
"The excitement and joy I felt when I completed the designated moves with my teammates is incomparable to the single-person event." Niu Zeyuan, 7 years old, from Beijing Changping Xiaotangshan Central Primary School, tried the double-person modeling challenge in the competition. He used his rest days and summer vacation to train hard, challenge new moves, and adjust his mentality. "Through the competition, I can continue to accumulate experience and prepare for future international competitions."
Li Yuxuan, 10 years old, is a fourth-grade student from Lanlian No. 2 Primary School in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. She competed with her sister. The two sisters trained many times before the competition and found a tacit understanding in the wind tunnel. "Because of my passion, it is worth it no matter how tired I am."
In recent years, indoor skydiving (wind tunnel), as an emerging aviation science and technology sport, has developed rapidly in countries around the world and has gradually become a popular fashion sport. The Beijing Aviation Sports Association has been committed to the popularization, promotion and development of youth aviation science and technology sports. This event is the first indoor skydiving (wind tunnel) competition in China that is entirely participated by amateur players. It is specially designed for the majority of enthusiasts to attract more aviation sports enthusiasts to participate by reducing the difficulty of the competition. This event is not only a practice and test of the "Indoor Skydiving (Wind Tunnel) Basic Flight Grade Standard" being formulated by the Beijing Aviation Sports Association, but also provides valuable data support for the official release of the standard.
Since the indoor skydiving (wind tunnel) facility in Xiangyun Town was put into operation in 2017, it has become a popular destination for many enthusiasts, attracting a large number of people to watch, experience and participate in training. Sun Lihong, the person in charge of the Beijing Space Experience Center, said: "While focusing on the cultivation of technical capabilities, we also attach great importance to cultivating the tenacious will and fighting spirit of young people. In recent years, many young players from Beijing have not only made their mark in national competitions, but also demonstrated outstanding performance and excellent results in international competitions, laying a solid foundation for the cultivation and development of my country's aviation reserve talents."
