In the new semester this year, new Tongji students from five provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) took the high-speed rail to report to the school for free.
On the evening of August 17, the 2024 undergraduate freshmen and their parents from five provinces (regions and cities) including Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou and Tibet, took the G2195 high-speed train and arrived smoothly at Shanghai Hongqiao Station. Tongji University's Executive Vice President Lyu Peiming and his party were waiting at the school gate No. 18 Chifeng Road to welcome the freshmen and their parents into the school.
Four buses slowly drove into the school gate. The freshmen and their parents excitedly waved through the windows. The Tongji volunteers who had been waiting for a long time quickly stepped forward to provide warm service to the younger students. This year is the third year that the Sichuan Alumni Association of Tongji University has taken the lead in organizing the free sending of freshmen to college. It is worth mentioning that this year's high-speed rail team is even larger. The alumni associations in Yunnan, Guizhou, Chongqing and Tibet and the school admissions team have actively responded, continuing the tradition of the "Tongji University First Button Special Train" and sending the 2024 freshmen from five provinces (regions and cities) to school together with the Sichuan Alumni Association.
Starting in the morning and arriving in the evening, at 6 am on August 17, Tongji University's "Tongchuang" G2195 set off. This student train went from Chengdu to Shanghai, passing through 30 stations in Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi and other provinces. During this 13-hour journey, the school carefully designed a variety of activities.
Teacher Zhang Xin from the School of Economics and Management of Tongji University transformed the carriage into a classroom and gave a lecture to the new students on the theme of "How AGI (artificial general intelligence) will shape our world", encouraging students to actively learn and strive to broaden their knowledge in order to better adapt to the development of the times.
The "special train" was very lively, with laughter and applause all the way, and students and volunteers holding guitars and playing beautiful songs. Tongji teachers and student volunteers on the train also patiently answered questions for the freshmen and their parents. In addition to warm entertainment activities, the train also provides free three meals a day for the freshmen. In order to suit the tastes of the students, nutritious dishes were carefully customized. There are spicy Sichuan dishes and sweet Shanghai dishes.
Huang, a freshman of the Class of 2024, said: "I am from a mountainous area, and the travel expenses to go to college are a big expense for me. When the alumni association contacted me and told me that I could take the high-speed rail to school for free, I couldn't believe it. It was not until the welcome event that I knew it was all true. I was so moved by Tongji's opening gift, and I deeply felt the care and love of the school. On the special train, the entire carriage was filled with the enthusiasm of Tongji people, which inspired me to have hopes and visions for a new life, and made me understand that life is not only difficult, but also beautiful. The sorrow in my heart was swept away by these bits of happiness. I look forward to a new start at Tongji all the time, and look forward to my own blooming future."
After arriving at Tongji, parents gave the school a thumbs up and praised: "The entire special train activity is comprehensive and deserves five-star praise. The children and we are very proud! Thank you Tongji, we are relieved!"
Before departure, in order to ensure that the freshmen from the five places have a smooth journey to college, with the full support of China Railway Chengdu Bureau Group Co., Ltd. and Chengdu East Railway Station, the school and the alumni association scientifically formulated a security plan, opened up a "green channel" for entering the station, security checks, waiting for the train, and boarding the train, and arranged special personnel to provide guidance to provide maximum convenience.
