This July, nearly 100 contract medical students graduated. After three years of standardized residency training, these young talents will join many township health centers in our province and become the backbone and hope of the primary medical system.
Grassroots medical and health institutions are the "first line of defense" to protect the health of the people. In the past, township medical institutions faced the severe challenge of "difficulty in recruiting and retaining talents" due to poor treatment, limited development and lack of resources. This bottleneck has long restricted the improvement of grassroots medical service levels. In recent years, our province has successively introduced a series of policies aimed at strengthening the foundation and building a high-quality grassroots health talent team.
A relevant person in charge of the Provincial Health Commission introduced that since 2015, our province has launched the "369 Grassroots Health Talent Project". Through three ways of introduction and training, on-the-job training, and assistance and support, it has implemented nine plans, including rural order-oriented medical student training, special recruitment of medical graduates, special posts for general practitioners, etc., to promote the construction of grassroots health talent team in an all-round and multi-level manner.
Taking rural medical students as an example, since the implementation of this training work in 2010, the province has recruited more than 4,200 medical students with bachelor's degrees in traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Among them, more than 3,600 have completed their studies, and more than 3,300 have joined the grassroots after completing standardized residency training, effectively alleviating the talent shortage problem in grassroots medical institutions such as township health centers and promoting the improvement of grassroots medical service quality.
In order to stimulate the enthusiasm and motivation of medical talents to serve the grassroots, our province has given all-round policy inclinations and guarantees in staffing management, financial support, post allowances, etc. to ensure that talents can be attracted, retained and used well.
According to statistics, since the implementation of the "369 Grassroots Health Talent Project", our province has introduced more than 20,000 medical graduates to the grassroots. This year, we will once again recruit 2,600 medical graduates, who will mainly serve in county-level public medical and health institutions, community health service centers and township health centers.
By the end of 2023, there will be more than 40,000 registered general practitioners in the province, and nearly 3,000 students will work at the grassroots level. In the future, our province will continue to increase the construction of grassroots medical talent teams, build a solid foundation for grassroots health services, and make the people more reliable.
