According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jae-myung won 77.7% of the votes in the 2022 Democratic Party of Korea leader election, surpassing the previous election and setting a record for the highest vote share in the Democratic Party of Korea leader election. Kim Doo-gwan, another candidate competing with Lee Jae-myung for the party leader election, only received 12.12% of the votes.

According to Yonhap News Agency, in his speech accepting the position of party leader, Lee Jae-myung said that the top priority is to restore the people's livelihood and economy. In the last meeting with President Yoon Seok-yeol, the two sides reached a consensus to meet at any time to discuss national affairs, so he hopes to meet with the president again. He also proposed to hold talks with Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the ruling People's Power Party, to discuss the top priority in an informal manner.

Lee Jae-myung, 60, was elected mayor of Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea in 2010, and was later elected governor of Gyeonggi Province with a high vote. In March 2022, Lee Jae-myung participated in the presidential election on behalf of the Democratic Party of Korea and lost to Yoon Seok-yeol by a narrow margin; in June of the same year, he became a member of parliament through a by-election, and was successfully elected as the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, the largest opposition party in South Korea, two months later. Due to the party's regulations, candidates for party leader cannot hold leadership positions within the party. On June 24 this year, Lee Jae-myung resigned as the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea and challenged for re-election. (End)
