Academician Wu Yueliang recalls his teacher Zhou Guangzhao: He had "given up three times" for the needs of the motherland

On August 17, 2024, Zhou Guangzhao, an outstanding scientist, senior academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, former president and party secretary of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, honorary chairman and former chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress, and winner of my country's "Two Bombs and One Satellite" Medal of Merit, died of illness in Beijing at the age of 95.

On August 18, Wu Yueliang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and former director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was interviewed by a reporter from the Beijing News, recalling his time with his teacher Zhou Guangzhao and his teacher's patriotism.

"He often called me to the hospital to report on recent scientific research progress"

May 15th this year marks the 70th anniversary of Zhou Guangzhao's scientific career and his 95th birthday. The "Symposium on Mr. Zhou Guangzhao's Academic Thought and Scientific Spirit" was also held on that day. Although Mr. Zhou was unable to attend due to health reasons, Wu Yueliang heard that his body was still normal, but he was not awake as much as before. On the morning of August 18th, Wu Yueliang learned of Zhou Guangzhao's death and was heartbroken. "Although the teacher had been ill and hospitalized for more than ten years, I didn't expect that he would leave so suddenly."
