On August 15, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the national economic performance in July.
At the meeting, Liu Aihua, spokesperson, chief economist, and director of the Department of Comprehensive Statistics of the National Economy of the National Bureau of Statistics, said that the Party Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to stabilizing employment. All regions and departments continue to improve employment and entrepreneurship policies, improve the employment public service system, expand employment space through multiple channels, focus on employment and entrepreneurship of college graduates and other young people, and coordinate the promotion of employment of other key groups.

Judging from the data in July, the employment situation has remained generally stable since the beginning of this year. First, the urban survey unemployment rate has risen seasonally. In July, the national urban survey unemployment rate was 5.2%, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, but 0.1 percentage points lower than the same period last year. The national urban survey unemployment rate rose from the previous month, mainly due to the impact of the concentrated departure of college graduates into the labor market during the traditional graduation season. From the perspective of the urban survey unemployment rate of 31 major cities, it was 5.3% in July, up 0.4 percentage points from the previous month, because the concentrated departure of college graduates was more prominent in major cities; but the urban survey unemployment rate of 31 major cities was still 0.1 percentage points lower than the same period last year. In addition, the employment of migrant workers remained basically stable. In July, the urban survey unemployment rate of migrant workers with agricultural household registration was 4.9%, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, and 0.3 percentage points lower than the national urban survey unemployment rate.
Liu Aihua said that as the effects of various policies continue to be released, the economy continues to recover and improve, and the accelerated development of new quality productivity has created new jobs, the employment situation is expected to remain generally stable. However, it should also be noted that the pressure on total employment still exists, and the structural contradiction of difficulty in finding employment and difficulty in recruiting workers is still relatively prominent. The employment of some industries and key groups is still under pressure. In the next stage, we must persist in making the employment of college graduates and other youth groups a top priority and make greater efforts to promote high-quality full employment.
