China News Service Yinchuan, August 17 (Reporter Li Peishan) On August 17, the 2024 "Hemei Rural 'Village Fishing' Invitational Tournament" opened at the Ningxia Rice and Fish Space Rural Ecological Tourism Park in Helan County, Yinchuan City, Ningxia.

The competition venue is located in the water channel island fishing pond of Yinchuan Kehai Biotechnology Co., Ltd., covering an area of 100 acres. It has 300 fishing platforms in 4 areas. More than 300 fishing enthusiasts from 14 provinces across the country are competing here and enjoying the fun of fishing.

There are two points competitions in this competition, each lasting 240 minutes, with a standard of 4.5-meter hand-held fishing rod for mixed fish weight competition, and carp and crucian carp are the main fish species. Participants are not only exempt from registration fees, but also can receive event handbags, sun protection clothing, fish guards, hats, Helan specialty agricultural and sideline products and other support materials. The top 50 will be selected, with 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 44 excellent prizes.
During the competition, the organizers also carefully arranged a series of colorful "village flavor" experience activities. From various forms of fishing experience such as casting nets to catch fish, catching crabs in rice fields, and fishing shrimps with hand poles, to photography exhibitions that record the beauty and culture of Ningxia's rural fisheries, to the delicious fish banquets, the unique local agricultural activities allow contestants and tourists from all over the country to appreciate the competition and experience fishing, while feeling the cultural characteristics of "Jiangnan on the Great Wall, the Land of Fish and Rice". At the same time, the activities promoted the organic integration of Helan County's fishing cultural heritage and modern civilization elements, highlighting the style of farmers in the new era, rural style and local culture.
Helan County is located in the hinterland of the Yellow River Irrigation Area. It has a reputation of "Jiangnan on the Great Wall" and "the land of fish and rice" since ancient times, with crisscrossing ditches, lakes, flat fields, and fat rice and fish. The unique location advantages and resource endowments have laid a solid foundation for the holding of this event. In recent years, Helan County has fully explored new models of fishery industry based on its advantages in water resources and fishery resources, and continuously consolidated the development advantages of water-adapted industries. In 2023, the breeding area of water-adapted industries in Helan County will stabilize at 58,000 mu, with a total output of 63,500 tons and a total fishery output value of 817 million yuan. Helan County has successively introduced more than 10 famous, special and excellent new varieties such as California bass, white shrimp, river crab, and yellow croaker, anchoring the forefront of fishery modernization development such as characteristic seed industry, green technology, famous and high-quality facilities, and aquatic product processing, and successfully created a national-level aquatic health breeding and ecological breeding demonstration area, running out of the acceleration of high-quality agricultural development and rural revitalization.
