According to the Red Star Capital Bureau on August 17, Shanghai Mita Network Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Mita Network") recently issued a statement saying that it had received an infringement notification letter from China Academic Journal (CD-ROM Edition) Electronic Magazine Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CNKI").
The notice stated that CNKI recently discovered that Mita Network provided users with academic literature titles and abstracts of CNKI through Mita AI Search and Mita AI Search APP, and the amount of data was huge. This behavior was without its permission and seriously infringed its legal rights and interests.
At the same time, the notice letter stated that upon receipt of the letter, Mita Network should immediately stop providing its academic literature title abstract data in the search service, and that since it does not want its CNKI content to be searched by Mita Technology, it should immediately disconnect the link from the search results to its website.

In response to this, MiTa Network stated that from now on, MiTa AI search will no longer include title and abstract data of CNKI documents, and will instead include title and abstract data of documents from other authoritative knowledge bases in Chinese and English.
According to its official website, MiTa Network was founded in April 2018 and focuses on the field of artificial intelligence. It conducts research and development and product implementation in the areas of AI search, AI writing and legal translation. It has also independently developed the large language model MetaLLM, which has passed the registration.
Red Star Capital Bureau noted that currently, when searching for a keyword in Mita AI search, the search scope can be framed as the entire network, library, academic or podcast. Among them, within the academic search scope, you can see the paper information related to the generated search results.
MiTa Network also stated that its "Academic" section only includes the abstracts and titles of the papers, and does not include the article content itself. To read the main text, one needs to jump to the website through the source link.
Would the inclusion of abstracts and bibliographies of papers constitute infringement?
On August 17, Zhao Zhanling, a special researcher at the Intellectual Property Research Center of China University of Political Science and Law, told the Red Star Capital Bureau that whether copyright infringement occurs depends on whether the abstract of the paper and other contents constitute an independent work.
"An abstract is a simple summary of the full text and is usually relatively short. I think it is difficult for it to constitute an independent work. If it does not constitute an independent work, then the act of grabbing these abstracts and other content cannot be deemed to constitute copyright infringement," Zhao Zhanling told the Red Star Capital Bureau.
In addition, the Red Star Capital Bureau called the phone numbers disclosed by CNKI and MTA Network on industrial and commercial channels and official websites, but the calls could not be connected or no one answered.
