On August 17, Cover News received the latest news that Mercedes-Maybach's first convertible sports car, the new Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, made its global debut, competing with Rolls-Royce Dawn and Bentley GT for the top luxury sports car market. It is understood that the new car offers two body colors, "red" and "white" for consumers to choose from. In terms of appearance and interior, the color and material are cleverly used, and the Maybach badge pattern is used as a classic design element throughout the car.
Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach Global Business at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said: “Mercedes-Maybach customers are looking for something special. As a two-seater convertible sports car, the arrival of the new Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series further enriches the family product series. It perfectly combines the dynamic driving experience with all the brand essences of Maybach, such as craftsmanship, exquisite details and selected materials, bringing a new presentation of convertible sports driving pleasure to the ‘ultimate luxury’.”
Specifically, the new car's illuminated Maybach iconic vertical grille is paired with the "MAYBACH" lettering with the same lighting effect, outlining the eye-catching front face shape. The three-pointed star emblem standing on the front of the car is paired with the chrome "ridgeline" running through the engine cover, depicting the brand's unique appearance. The obsidian black engine cover can even be customized with a graphite gray Maybach badge pattern embedded, further highlighting the unique charm of Mercedes-Maybach.
Moving to the interior, the crystal white Nappa leather tanned by sustainable technology is used to cover the door panels, center console and the brand's iconic comfort seats, creating an exquisite pure white environment. The seats adopt a new pattern stitching design in the shape of the Maybach logo, and the back area of the seats is also covered with white leather.
In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine that can generate 430 kilowatts of power and is matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the new car is equipped with a rear-wheel active steering system with a steering angle of 2.5 degrees on each side, which makes the vehicle control both agile and stable, and achieves a more agile and reliable driving experience.
Data shows that in the first half of 2024, thanks to the increase in deliveries of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedan, Mercedes-Benz continues to be the first choice for customers in the luxury car market of one million and above. Despite the complexity and volatility of the current automobile market, consumers' demand for luxury cars has not weakened. The launch of the Maybach SL 680 Monogram convertible sports car shows that high-end consumers are still willing to pay for high-quality, high-performance luxury cars.
