“I didn’t expect it would be so difficult to rent a house in a big city!”
On August 15, Zhang Bing (pseudonym), who was waiting for work at the gate of a labor market in Beijing, complained to a reporter from Legal Daily.
Zhang Bing is from Shandong, 46 years old. He came to Beijing to work with his fellow villagers in March this year. "The first thing to solve is the accommodation problem. Everyone knows that renting a house in a big city is expensive. It is impossible for me to rent a whole house. I can only share the rent. I didn't expect that there are real estate agencies that don't allow people to share a house."
When he first arrived in Beijing, Zhang Bing downloaded a rental app to find a suitable house, but he found that because he was over 40, he could not choose to share a house on the app, and could only rent the entire house. This made him feel troubled: "The cheapest one-bedroom apartment costs more than 3,000 yuan, how can I afford it? This restriction does not consider elderly workers at all."
A recent investigation by a reporter from the Legal Daily found that in addition to age, tenants may also encounter various restrictions when renting a house, such as being required to work in a specific job, not being able to stay at home during the day, cleaning on time and making video reports, etc.
Are these rental requirements reasonable? What should tenants do if they encounter unreasonable rental requirements? In this regard, the reporter conducted an interview.
There are age requirements for renting a house
The reporter opened the rental agency app mentioned by Zhang Bing and found that the agency mostly rented out rooms. Sharing a house is a normal choice, but the agency clearly restricted people over 40 years old from participating in the sharing of houses in the contract.
