Beijing's first drone delivery route was officially opened at the Badaling Great Wall Scenic Area on August 16, delivering heatstroke prevention, emergency rescue and other supplies to tourists. The commissioning of this "air corridor" will further enhance the scenic area's tourist experience and strengthen emergency support capabilities and the digital level of daily operations and maintenance.
On August 16, a small drone was delivering goods to tourists at the Great Wall. Photo provided by the route operatorThe first delivery point of Beijing's drone logistics delivery route is located at the Nanjiu Tower on the southern extension of the Badaling Great Wall. The reporter went to the delivery point and logged into the food delivery platform to place an order by scanning the code with his mobile phone. In about 5 minutes, he received medicines, drinking water, sunscreen, food and other supplies delivered by a small drone.
The South Nine Towers of the Badaling Great Wall South City Extension will be open to the public at the end of 2023. Considering the protection of the original appearance of the Great Wall, there are no commercial facilities in this area, so it is difficult for tourists visiting here to replenish drinking water and other supplies. To solve this pain point, the Badaling Great Wall Scenic Area cooperated with the distribution platform to open Beijing's first drone logistics distribution route in Yanqing, Beijing.
Mao Yinian, vice president of Meituan and head of drone business, said that the route that originally required a 50-minute walk can now be delivered to tourists in just 5 minutes by drones, including cooling items and emergency supplies. When the drones return, they can also bring back the garbage they generate, saving labor costs for the operation and maintenance of the Great Wall.
In October 2020, Yanqing District of Beijing was approved as the first batch of "civil unmanned aerial vehicle test zones" in the country. Beijing's first Zhongguancun low-altitude economic industrial park was also recently established in Yanqing.
In recent years, the continuous expansion of new application scenarios has brought new vitality to Beijing's low-altitude economy. In the future, Beijing will further enhance the innovation capabilities of drones, master key core technologies, open up low-altitude application scenarios, and form a characteristic industrial cluster dominated by industrial-grade drones, with equal emphasis on low-altitude economy and low-altitude security.
