Xinhua News Agency, Santo Domingo, August 16 (Reporter Chen Haoquan) Dominican President-elect Abinader was sworn in in the capital Santo Domingo on the 16th, starting his second presidential term.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Eduardo Brito National Theater in Santo Domingo at noon on the 16th. Abinader took the oath of office at the ceremony, and Ricardo de los Santos, President of the Dominican Senate, put the presidential sash on him.
Abinader then delivered a speech, promising that the new government will continue to firmly fight corruption, promote social equity, and improve the lives of all Dominican people.

The Dominican Republic held a presidential election on May 19, with a total of nine candidates participating in the race. The Dominican Electoral Commission confirmed on the 24th that Abinader won the absolute majority of votes required to win the election and was elected as the new president. His new term will begin on August 16 this year and end in 2028.
Abinader was born in Santo Domingo in 1967. He ran for president as the candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party in 2020 and won.
The presidential election in the Dominican Republic is held every four years. According to relevant laws, if a candidate receives more than half of the votes in the first round of voting, he or she will be directly elected president.
