Hunan Daily, August 16 (Reporter Wang Liang, Correspondent Chen Cheng) In major supermarkets and vegetable markets, people clearly feel that the prices of pork, vegetables and other foods have been rising for several consecutive months. According to the Hunan Provincial Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics, in July, the consumer price index (CPI) in Hunan rose by 1.0% year-on-year, 0.5 percentage points higher than the national average.
This is the month with the highest increase in the province's consumer price index since July 2023, and it is the sixth consecutive month of increase. According to the relevant person in charge of the Hunan Provincial Survey Corps, since February this year, on the one hand, social consumption demand has continued to recover due to policy and other factors; on the other hand, the low output of pork and frequent natural disasters have led to a continuous increase in pork and vegetable prices, which has driven up the increase in consumer prices.
In July, from the perspective of commodity categories, there was a trend of "seven increases and one decrease". Among them, the price of other goods and services increased the most, reaching 4.3%; the prices of education, culture and entertainment, food, tobacco, alcohol, and medical care increased by 2.0%, 1.7%, and 1.3% respectively; the prices of daily necessities and services, clothing, and transportation and communications increased slightly, up 0.8%, 0.7%, and 0.1% respectively. The only decrease was the price of housing, which decreased by 0.3%.
Food prices rose 2.4% year-on-year, affecting the CPI by about 0.43 percentage points. Among them, pork prices rose the most significantly, reaching 23.8%; fresh vegetable prices rose 10.5%.
