Recently, the National Data Bureau announced that it will accelerate the construction of a national integrated computing network and data infrastructure, and encourage local governments to conduct pilot explorations. Since July, data infrastructure projects in many regions have been announced to start or disclosed the latest progress. At the same time, the construction of many intelligent computing center projects is also accelerating. Computing power is becoming a globally scarce strategic resource in the intelligent era, and all sectors of society have put forward the demand for universal computing power.
With the vigorous development of large-scale AI model applications, the amount of data has increased exponentially, which has posed unprecedented challenges to computing power. Single intelligent computing centers can no longer meet the huge demand for large-scale model training, so computing power interconnection has become the focus of industry attention. However, China's computing power interconnection is not a smooth road, and it faces three major challenges: "difficulty in finding computing power", "difficulty in adjusting computing power", and "difficulty in using computing power".
There are more than 5,000 computing power providers in China, but in the process of "looking for computing power", a significant problem is the low concentration of computing power. This makes it difficult for users to quickly locate suitable computing power resources, and matching computing power supply and demand has become a major problem.
Entering the "computing power adjustment" stage, the problems are also not to be underestimated. Computing tasks and data need to be efficiently uploaded to the appropriate resource pool for calculation, but the current dispatching capability service level of most computing power operators is low, and the network data transmission bandwidth is limited and the cost is high, which further exacerbates the difficulty of scheduling.
In the process of "using computing power", due to the different standards of application interfaces, protocol architectures, etc. between different types and entities, a large amount of adaptation and compatibility work of development frameworks and computing frameworks is required, which undoubtedly increases the complexity of using computing power.
Faced with these challenges, operators, local governments, scientific research institutions, etc. have devoted themselves to the practice of computing power interconnection and explored a variety of technical paths. Computing power service is a new form of information and communication business on the Internet; computing power Internet is a new type of infrastructure formed after the Internet has enhanced its capabilities and upgraded its systems for computing power application and scheduling needs. Its essence is to build a unified application layer computing power identifier within the Internet architecture, based on the computing network cloud scheduling operating system and high-performance transmission protocol, enhance the capabilities of all-optical networks, elastic networks, etc., and improve heterogeneous computing capabilities, thereby realizing intelligent perception, real-time discovery, and on-demand acquisition of computing power.
This concept will form a large market with standardized and service-oriented computing power, as well as a logical network in which computing power is interconnected and flexibly called. In such a network, applications and data can efficiently match supply and demand, flow and communicate, and migrate computing between computing power resources. The realization of "finding and calling" computing power through the standardization of the computing power Internet will greatly accelerate the process of China's computing power interconnection.
More importantly, the computing power Internet will promote the high-quality development of computing power's new quality productivity. Computing power has become a strategic resource for scientific and technological competition. In order to maximize the role of computing power's new quality productivity, it is crucial to lower the threshold for computing power use and make computing power a universal social service like water and electricity.
